ePub created with Sigil : empty when loaded with Calibre

Hi,

There is my problem : I use xhtml and css files to create an ePub with Sigil.

But when I open it with Calibre, nothing appears. All the pages are blank.

Has someone ever encountered this problem?

I could use Calibre to create it, but I would like to use xhtml + css for the cover and I think it's not possible with Calibre.

You are doing something strange

I have created (code tricks) samplers from scratch with Sigil and Calibre has no problems with them.

I do start with Sigil created Blanks for each file

What happens if you perform a validation check in sigil?

Thanks for your help,

@theducks : I tried this way but nothing changes.

@PeterT : No problems found in Sigil. But some errors are found in Calibre.

@BetterRed : I can read in edit mode, there's no problem, but when I try to open it in the normal reader mode, there's nothing in the book.

When I create directly the ePub file in Calibre, I don't have such problems even if there are some strange things. For example the stylesheet is not totally applied, but the content is here. Maybe should I only use Calibre?

@jpomart - another long-shot tangent. There's a widely used Word add-in that creates EPUBs from Word documents - it has these options - no idea of there significance or if its relevant to the reader -as I don't use that bit of add in.

FWIW I edit epubs in Sigil - and I have no trouble reading with calibre ebook-reader - just works, but I've no idea why.

What errors are reported by calibre?

Any chance you can share the ePub. If it's copyrighted, you could try [GUI Plugin] ScrambleEbook: Getting help with copyrighted books and post it's output.

I like Calibres validator best.

Stylesheet partial failure is almost always a error (colon vs semicolon typo) on the sheet.
The stylesheet IS NOT validated as part of the Validation. In Sigil: rightclick the filename: Validate with W3C

Also style names are case sensitive .TX is not .tx

and Tags should always be lower case <br />

Thank you very much for your help.

@BetterRead : Sorry but I don't find these settings! Can you tell me where to find it and what version do you use please?

@PeterT : The only error reported by Calibre is that the file is too big. I'll try to split it during conversion in Sigil.

@theducks : My css files passed the W3C quality control.

I continue my investigations.

The file is too big IS a very important one; some device (especially older ones) have issues with large (x)html files within the ePub. It's often suggested that one use a maximum file size of around 250 K.

The tool BetterRed mentioned is by toxaris. See e-Book Tools - a Word add-in

@jpomart - apologies for confusing you - my reference to those settings in the Word add-in was intended as a hint to the other aficionados - IIRC those two radio buttons are used to create Sigil and Calibre 'compatible' code - something to do with entities. But it was another existentialist red herring

You can split the EPUB into several XHTML files within Sigil - a common practice is to split on chapter boundaries.

I think that the cause of the problem is found, thanks to you all.

File size is 341 K. I tried to split in 3 or 4 parts, and it works. I have some issues but it's not that bad. I'll split in 2 parts.

Furthermore, the stylesheet is correctly and totally applied.
