Purchased Kobo Glo HD- coming from a Sony PRS-T1

I just recently purchased my first non-sony ereader, the Kobo Glo HD after nearly a decade of owning Sony ereader devices. I have always had a sony ereader in its various iterations since 2007, the PRS-505, PRS-650, PRS-300, PRS-T1, and so on. The PRS-T1 was the most unimpressive of the lot, as it seemed like Sony gave up by the time the PRS-T1 rolled around. The T2 and T3 I didn't bother getting, as I knew I would be getting a Kobo or a Kindle as my next one. I have fond memories of the PRS-505, which had the best build quality of the bunch. The Nook Glowlight Plus reminds me a bit of the PRS-505 in that regard. I had the cover light for the PRS-505 too-- something that won't be at all neccessary for my new Glo HD!

I almost went for the Voyage, but the $200 price tag was a bit much, and the closed ecosystem is a turn off. Besides, I've been using Calibre since the 0.6x days. I sideload all of my books as well. The Kobo felt like the natural fit for me.

I'll be getting the OMOTON case for it. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XVSOUNQ/?tag=mr060-20

Honestly, I cannot wait. This is my first ereader in more than 3 years, and will be the first with a frontlight. The 166 dpi of the PRS-T1 is very noticable- I cannot wait to see how the 300 dpi screen looks on the Glo HD in addition to the font selection on the Glo HD. I had my own fonts sideloaded on the PRS-T1, but it was a pain to get working initally.

I think you're going to be quite impressed.

I remember when I went from my v1 Touch to my Aura HD... that was impressive. Given that the T1 has the same screen as a v1 Touch, I imagine your reaction will be similar. The Glo HD may have the same size screen as the T1, but as you've said, the difference in resolution is astonishing. Plus, I'm sure you'll love the front light. I can't imagine having a reader without one now.

Do a look around the forums. Side-loading fonts onto Kobo devices is fairly straightforward, as long as you name the font files using the proper convention. The Summary of Modified Fonts sticky topic has all the info you need.

Enjoy your new reader!

No, just the OMOTON case I bought. It won't be here until Tuesday. I hope the Glo HD gets here today or Monday. We'll see here.

Ottdmk, I've already done my research- I have set Calibre up for the Glo HD with the Kobo Utils and Kobo Touch Extended Driver to convert to kepub on the fly when sending to device.

I've also saved and modified the .patch files in GeoffR's modified firmware to enable patches that I want. Everything is ready to go as soon as the Glo HD gets here. I'll play with the stock for a bit, then flash the mod FW a day after or so.

Sideloading fonts is something I almost certainly will do, unless I like the built-in fonts. Still, I like choice.
