Free (nook/Kindle) Lasting Contribution: How to Think, Plan, Act [Award-Win Advice]
Lasting Contribution: How to Think, Plan, and Act to Accomplish Meaningful Work by Tad Waddington (Wikipedia), a former director at Accenture and recipient of a whole bunch of business awards, is his pop psych-ish personal/professional accomplishments self-improvement guide, free courtesy of publisher Agate's B2 imprint.
This was the recipient of a USABookNews National Best Books 2007 Award, as well some other ones listed on his Wikipedia page, and tries to frame its insights in a pseudo-academic style, drawing upon concepts and jargon from social sciences fields, as well as more popular and historical sources, with references, and has a bunch of quoted blurb praise from business and academic professionals. This has previously been offered free back in 2013, but doesn't seem to have been mentioned on MR at the time, so might as well treat it as a new offering for today, since it's been a while there's a bunch of other repeats already. Currently free @ B&N (also UK), Amazon (not available to Canadians, but also free in the UK). May also be free at Google Play for the US and/or drop at iTunes for the US, where Agate freebies have been showing up in recent weeks (but seem to be skipping this time around). Description A powerful dose of wisdom in a concise package, Lasting Contribution is filled with profound and effective advice on how to make the kinds of contributions — to work, to organizations, to communities — that really matter. Drawing from such varied sources as Aristotle, Sun Tzu, Victor Frankl, and Confucius, this book marshals insights that touch on information theory, sociology, Zen, psychology, art history, management theory, and other fields. Waddington's deft ability to illuminate his ideas using colorful examples — everything from the Titanic and Santa Claus to skateboarding and Oprah's shoes — make the book as engaging as it is wise and thoughtful. Above all, Lasting Contribution offers different benefits to different readers: insightful tips for a better work performance for those looking to improve their careers; practical life-applications for those grappling with high philosophical ideas; and food for thought for thought for anyone seeking to enrich their lives generally.
