Lightbulb Free (Kindle) Mulligan's Christmas Stew [Vintage Journalism Festive Culture Columns]

Mulligan's Christmas Stew: A Tasty Serving of Holiday Stories by the late long-time AP reporter and columnist Hugh Mulligan (obituary @ Boston.com, USA Today), edited by the Associated Press with an introduction by Malachy McCourt (Wikipedia), is a festively-themed collection of his holiday writings on Christmas-related subjects ranging from personal experience anecdotes to the origins of various traditions to celebrations practiced around the globe, containing vintage and modern columns from the 1950s onwards, free courtesy of publisher RosettaBooks.

This is a pretty nifty look at the changing view of Christmas over the decades, and may perhaps be of especial interest to cultural history-oriented Gentle Readers, plus it's got illustrations and some author-retrospective bonuses, as well.

Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK, and probably pretty much everywhere else worldwide that Amazon will sell, since it's apparently being done via the KDP Select exclusive-or-else program)

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because although I don't think it's a particularly good idea to start promoting all the Chrismanukkwanzaa stuff until other major holidays are over, this is a truly nifty offering and look back at the seasonal festivities over the years by a journalist who approached them with very readable-looking warmth and affection and humour.

Enjoy!

Description
For more than 30 years as a roving reporter, AP Special Correspondent (and legendary storyteller) Hugh Mulligan wrote witty, quirky, and sometimes poignant Christmas columns from many distant datelines.

Whether he was writing from London or Austria, Israel or Vietnam, or the snows of Greenland and the Canadian Artic, Mulligan managed to capture the essence of the holiday spirit for all to enjoy.

Now The Associated Press has assembled these delightful stories in a new collection, Mulligan’s Christmas Stew. This serving of tasty tales is sprinkled with humorous and touching observations, as well as enchanting reminders about the joy and reflection the time of the year brings to all, both young and old.

The volume features an introduction by Malachy McCourt, as well as Christmas quizzes, artifacts from the AP Corporate Archives, and an interview with the author on his incredible career in journalism.

Mulligan’s Christmas Stew is a journey through the world of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Clement C. Moore’s The Night Before Christmas, the birth of Christmas carols, the real cost of “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” Christmas at the White House and so much more!

Have yourself a Merry Mulligan Christmas!

I'm semi-anti Christmas before (US)Thanksgiving, especially since my birthday is in November (the 13th, actually) ---- BUT.... I've been trying to collect wintery/holiday-ish books to read in December too. :P

What a let-down!

Here I was thinking finally - FINALLY! - "Mulligan Stew," by Gilbert Sorrentino, had been re-released (legally, this time) in ebook form.

I need a crying big-tears emoticon!
