Avoiding double, triple and quadruple+ postings

As long as new forums have been brought up, many of them have a timer where someone can't make another post in the same thread for xx minutes. That would avoid those who like to make 4 posts in a row 1-3 minutes apart instead of doing the polite thing and editing their first post.

Most forums have rules against making double posts, I'm actually surprised it's allowed here. If the new forums could have that built-in timer, it would go a long way to alleviate the problem (and annoyance, I can't be the only one that minds it).

Most forums?
Perhaps the forums you are on, but I haven't seen that on most of the forums I have been on.

On some devices, it is easier to do one quote per post.
I don't see a problem with people posting more than once in a row.
I hope the mods don't change the posting rules.
Too much moderation is bad too.

As far as annoyance, some of us don't find it annoying.

Frankly I'd rather not see rampant editing of posts; it means if you've already read that post, most interfaces won't flag that as being an unread post.

Multiple posting can be much better than Multi-Quote... sometimes.
It depends on the situation.

I'd really rather not see such a rule.

Now, I'd like to see the rule where new members cannot start more than one new thread every xx minutes/hours.
That would do a lot to kill off the spammers I think.
Can't think of a reason legitimate members have to start fifteen threads in as many minutes....

anyone know if the new forum software allows for multiple conversation threads in a single topic ?

Some of the existing 'permanent' topics can have multiple threads running - can often be difficult to follow a 'conversation'.

If you mean threaded view, this forum has that too.

Go to the top of the page.
"Thread Tools", "Search this Thread", Rate Thread", "Display Modes"
Display Modes ==> Switch to Threaded Mode.

It only shows one post at a time, but you can follow the hierarchy.
Hybrid view just shows you the whole thread from the root of the selected post.

It could be better.

Also, my post isn't under yours , since I used Quick reply and afterwards added your post as a quote.
Breaks threaded view.
Just imagine when people don't even bother to Reply To at all.

...

I wonder how it handles multi-quote... haven't checked.

I've tried Display View a couple of times to follow a conversation thread, but as you noted Quick Replies are like hanging chads

The board I had in mind was industry specific with a limited number of 'disciplined' users, and I have a feeling the forum software was bespoke. I don't think it had a Quick Reply equivalent, from memory it only had Reply and Reply With Quote buttons on posts.

Since I'm no longer in the industry I hadn't been there for a couple of years, I just went back to take a look - they switched to Simple Minds
