NEW Kindle- OLD computer/calibre

Ok here's yet another example of calibre not recognising the device.

Have been using Calibre for many years (Version 3.3.1) with '000's ebooks in library on my old keyboard kindle. happily using my '07 iMac and MacOSX Yosemite. I believe this version of calibre may be the latest that can be run on Yosemite?

Anyways, have just bought the missus a new 2020 Kindle paper white and want to put a lot of thrillers on it. The usual problem ensues: the device is not recognised by my version of calibre.
-My iMac recognises BOTH kindles when connected and I can see the file/folders. -Calibre continues to see my old kindle and functions fine.
- new kindle works fine purchasing from Kindle website and "Household" sharing my own bought ebooks
- have tried dragging/dropping stuff from the calibre library into the drive folders manually but the paperweight is not showing stuff afterwards.- the file structures seem way more complex than on the the old kindle also....

have already tried all the posted variations of "unplugging/turning off & on again" to no avail
any help gratefully received!

I think your easiest option is to use the "connect to folder" option. See https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...-connect-to-it
