Conversion epub to pdf hangs

Hi,
I've installed the latest version of Calibre on my two machines. One is Windows Server 2012 and second one is Ms Windows 8.1.

The problem is the same file is converter without problem in 4 monutes on second machine (with win8) but on the other (win server) it never ends. It's been hanging for more than 30 minutes. Last log entry is always similar but not the same:

Referenced file u'OPS/{some_path}/{some_File}.svg' not found...

This kind of error occurs on the seconf(wind8) machine too but it does not stop the processing.

Conversion to PDF requires a GUI (except on linux) I'm guessing that your windows server machine is headless. If you want to run conversions on a headless machine you need to use linux.

Hi,
I connect to machine by RDP and run the gui version of calibre and result is the same as when I run ebook-convert from cmd line.

Additionally, the conversion has finished in .... 45 minutes, when on my poor local machine it last about 5 minutes. What I can see in log which isn't present in local machine log is smth like that about external resources:

JS: Blocked a frame with origin "{url}" from accessing a frame with origin "file://". The frame requesting access has a protocol of "https"

Of course, it seems to be result of firewall on server, but why it hangs if it cannot do some calls? When i tried to run it on local machine without internet connection, the result was correct, processing still no longer than 5 minutes.

PDF conversion uses a browser. That browser allows javascript, something in your epub is using javascript and that javascript is likely blocking on some resource your firewall is preventing from being fetched. Open your EPUB in the editor and remove the javascript and you will be fine. Or allow outbound requests through your firewall.

Thanks for the reply.

Ok i can try to remove it but in my case i cannot allow outbound request and cannot predict content of the file.

Is any option in calibre converter to cut off/trim the external resources ?

No the conversion makes no attempt to block external resources -- which can be anything from images/stylesheets/scripts etc.
