Troubleshooting I can't delete an empty book on my paperwhite

Hello!

While I love this forum, I still can't master its search function, so here I am with my question: I have an empty book on my paperwhite 2014 (firmware 5.6.5). I'd like to delete it but my kindle won't do anything if I choose delete from device. If I try to open it, it says that it's been deleted and isn't avalaible anymore on my kindle.
So how do I delete that useless line on my kindle frontpage, please?

Maybe you can try a restart to see if it will be gone?

Was this a book that you loaded via USB, or is it a book bought from Amazon? If it's the latter, are you sure that you're not seeing the version of the book that's in the Cloud?

If you did sideload it, check to see if anything's got stuck indexing - that can affect the refresh of the home screen. Go to the home screen, tap the "Search" button, and enter a string of random characters. On the results page, if the "Text in Books" tab isn't greyed out, select it and see if it says that there are books waiting to be indexed.

It is a sideloaded book. I did as you suggested, Harry, but there are no book indexing. Thanks for the advice, though, I hadn't thought of that trick.

I frequently plug mine into my computer and clean up old stuff. Just go into the documents folder, find the book and delete it. My PW gets really slow with the excess folders, etc. of old books I have deleted.

The original poster has already stated that the book has been deleted. The issue is that it still appears on the Home screen.

I had the same issue with my PW2 with a side loaded book, I tried to clean it up from the computer and it did not help. I ended up doing a complete reset of the PW2. I am sure there is an easier way I just did not know of it.

I will ask this question. Is there a way to remove the index and have the Kindle reindex without doing a reset to defaults.

Your solution, alas, isn't for me. I have 1400 or so books on my paperwhite and I can't imagine reloading them.

I use calibre and also I have Amazon ebooks, and amazon cloud for a lot of my ebooks. But I do not keep more than about 100 items on my voyage (now) at one time. Now that does not count my collections. That for the most part are empty on my kindle but they point to ebooks that are in the cloud.

Are you able to add and remove other books okay? If so, have you tried re-adding and then removing the book which is causing the problem?

Yes I tried to add the book again. And it showed that I had two of the same book. Then I deleted it and it showed that I still had the one that I could not get out of the Kindle. I even cleaned up the documents folder and it did not help.
The only thing that worked was the reset to default.

Exactly the same for me. I guess I'll just have to live with that line. It's not as if it was life threatening
