Build 708fmt and the Cybook 64

Hi

Just curious: as anyone tried to upgrade the Cybook 64 with the Build 708fmt? (the one that re-formats your machine not the one just upgrades it)? And if so was it a success?

Best,

Hi Jellby

Thank you for pointing to that thread, I had read it and it was the base of my early message.

My question is if anyone had (tried to) upgrade via that way, besides the situation reported in the thread you mention, and or if anyone had received feedback about that identified situation from Bookeen.

Bets regards,

Some have done so successfully and others have experienced problems. And I'm not sure why this is the case. Except for the 512MB flash memory, the two units are identical. I know for sure that *MY* 64MB unit is having no problems since I updated it to the Build 708 fmt version. And my 512MB unit is as happy as a clam with it. Just so you know, I sacrificed my EB-100's original firmware to the Cybook firmware and it (a 64MB unit) is also running quite well under b708fmt. It may well be that those who're experiencing problems may have not cleaned up their filesystems before applying the updates.

After I had another lockup problem today, I decided to try reflashing with the 708fmt version this time. It worked fine on my 64MB Gen3.

No, the 64mb and the 512mb units are not the same. You cannot put firmware 508 on the 512mb unit. So something has to be different in that case or 508 would work.

We'll see. I've had some minor issues with 708 (from the upgrade version) -- occasionally locking the Cybook up tight while at the library screen.

Never heard of firmware 508. Now *538* I've heard of, and used. It may well be that the app checks out the size of the internal flash memory to see if it's 64MB or 512MB, but the *operating system* is byte-for-byte identical between build 685 and build 538. Haven't checked build 708. Still, I think that there's a check in the updating script that monitors whether the currently-installed firmware is newer than the firmware one is attempting to install and which stops the update if that is the case. Change the script and you'll get an install.

But I'm not an expert on how to do this.

My mistake. Sorry. yes, it is 538 and not 508.

I flashed my 64 with the 708...no problems for a while, then it started freezing. Bookeen sent me another copy of the 708 and asked me to re-flash...again alright for a wee while...Bookeen then invited me to dispatch my Cybook to them to look at....
