Do any of the ebook formats save series metadata?

I use Calibre to organize my ebook files, but I just learned that the mobi format I've been using doesn't include metadata for series. Is there any format that does?

ePub can accomodate arbitrary metadata through generic <meta> tags, and calibre saves series information in that way. Then it's up to the reading up to recognize this custom <meta> tag.

Ok, cool. Thank you.

I actually just ended up using a plugboard to add series info into the title metadata field when saving to disc. I already had it saving the series info into the file name, but now it shows up in calibre if I reload the file into the program, which is what I wanted. Not in the same field, but good enough.

There are some ebook formats that do not save anything other than standard (DC??) metadata...at least that goes through Calibre. IIRC mobi is one of those. I have seen some books use workarounds by putting the non-standard metadata in between remarks codes... As Jellby said, it is still up to the device/app as to weather it will read that metadata.

...of course you could always switch to ePub format...
