PRS-505 Battery replacement

After 7 years of flawless performance, it seems that the battery of my Sony PRS-505 has finally died.

I've been looking for battery replacement options. I found a battery replacement kit (brand newpower99) that looks good, but for whatever reason they won't ship to Argentina. Amazon also sells this kit, but for what I know they ship with FedEx, a courier that has very poor service in Argentina.

Right now, the only way to extend the life of my reader would be to find a cell phone battery that fits in the PRS-505 battery compartment. It's a standard 3.7 Li battery, so I think it should work.

Has anybody here used a cell phone battery to replace the original one? If so, which one? Does anybody know the original battery size?

It's not that easy.
I don't know how the Sony battery looks like or how it works, but these batteries contain ALWAYS the charging/discharging controller (a LiIon battery is dangerous, it may explode if wrongly charged), and sometimes a deviceID is hardwired inside - in other words the Sony may not recognize the battery even if perfectly fitting inside - Sony has a history of such things...

Can't you find a 505 battery replacement on eBay Argentina?

If so, then the video is on newpower99's site and the screwdriver should be obtainable locally, if you can't find an eBay listing that supplies it with the battery.

I haven't replaced mine yet, but have read some posts that say it is difficult. I imagine they didn't take enough care (it apparently takes great care) in disconnecting and re-connecting the ribbon cable and re-installing the back without damaging that cable.

There are some PRS500/505 replacement batteries listed on ebay, coming from different countries. I'm not sure if the PRS-500 and PRS-505 batteries are identical, though. Maybe I will give it a try, it's only $ 15 or so, with free international shipping.

Here's another youtube video of a PRS-505 battery replacement. I saved the link because I noticed his care in taking off and putting on the metal case.

eBay US has similar battery listings that state they fit both the 500 or 505. Some listings are only for the 505, but those batteries look identical and have the same part number as the other 500/505 listings.

Here's a thread where some emphasized the care needed with the ribbon cable.
