Auto sync News to subfolder?
I'm playing around with the Connect To Folder feature and I first made a test folder and connected to it in Calibre. Immediately Calibre made a subfolder called "calibre" with all the magazines in my News category synced there. I was not expecting this but was pleasantly surprised. I was able to sync the rest of my books to the parent folder I selected (see image below).
After doing this test run I made a fresh folder in my Dropbox to sync to that. However, Calibre didn't sync my News items nor create the 'calibre' subfolder this second time. I'm just trying to figure out, is there something I accidentally did/have to do to turn that on? Is there any way to get other groups of books to sync into their own subfolder like it did with News magazines so I can maintain some physical organization when I open the folders in my iPhone Dropbox app instead of a flat list of books or authors? (like one folder per genre or rating) Here is an image showing what Calibre did the first time: ![]() and the second time (not nested): ![]() Last edited by truth1ness; 05-22-2015 at 09:15 PM. |

I think that News items are automatically synced to the first device connected after they're created. The fact they went into a folder named calibre is due to calibre being the Author of all news articles.

The example confuses me. As PeterT said, calibre can optionally send news "books" to the first device to connect after the news is downloaded. This happens only once per download. However ...
I cannot make calibre behave in the same way you show. Using connect-to-folder, in all cases the news was put into "News/name-of-news-article_year-month-day" (e.g., News/Dilbert [Sat, 23 May 2015]_2015-5-23.epub), no matter what the save template contains. This behavior is consistent with what I see in calibre's source code. The only way I could change this behavior is to remove the News tag, in which case saving reverts back to following the template. I note that your files do not follow the above naming pattern, which implies to me that either the News tag has been removed, or that calibre's language was changed between when the news was downloaded and when the connects-to-folder happened. In addition, the neither example follows the default file name template {title} - {authors} ({id}), which indicates that you have altered the template. The first example seems to use {authors}/{title} - {authors} while the second uses {title} - {authors}. |

Ah, I figured it out. It appears the "News" tag is case sensitive. Somehow my library got to using lower case "news" and so Calibre wasn't giving it the special treatment the "News" tag gets. Coincidentally, this also fixed the other issue I posted about a while ago about the News item in my tag browser showing zero when I have a bunch of news magazines.

Adding a similar (same spelling) tag can cause the existing ones to change case News add a tag news all are now news (tag matching during add/update is case insensitive) |

Thanks. I simply renamed news to News, I didn't add a second tag. Nothing besides my news items use that tag so I just converted them all to upper case as there were no lower case ones to maintain. Thanks for the heads up though.
