help with font
brand new to sigil. thank God for it. It will open doors for me!!!
Can't find where or how to use fonts. Is sigil set up automatically in Times New Roman at 12 points by any chance?? Also not sure if I set "indent first line" if that will indent my paragraph? Any help greatly appreciated!! |

I'd suggest taking a look at Pablo's tutorial on creating ePubs. See EPub Tutorial. There has been discussion of it here.

There's a lot to be said for leaving fonts to the reading device's capabilities, and the reading person's preferences. Other than perhaps specifying "serif" or "sans-serif". The quicker you lose the idea that ePub is a page layout medium, the happier you'll be :-)

I will second the leave the specific font to the user (besides the license fee for many is outrageous)
Stay basic: serif, sans-serif, bold, italic, underlined... Except for special (fun) cases where you might want a display type font fot Titles or first letter. SmallCaps is another problem. You best fake them and avoid text-transform |

Or, if having smallcaps is not really crucial, and you can live with normal text, simply use "font-variant: small-caps", and hope that future readers will have better support: future proof and easier coding.

I never embed fonts, if that's what you mean, for all the reasons that have been mentioned. But if what you want is to affect the appearance of your Book View, Code View, etc, go to Edit > Preferences - Appearance. This most recent iteration of Sigil gives rather odd results here. I find I have to set Book View to 16 pt in order for the text to be readable in the Preview pane. (Then I avoid using Book View.) |
