Author Tanith Lee has died at the age of 67.

Very sad to hear.

67 seems like a rather young age these days, and though I haven't read all that much of her work, I really enjoyed her Tales of the Flat Earth series* from old library paperbacks when I was growing up.

* To this day I still recall a passage in one of the books where the narrative says that the hero of some fabulous tale encountered some sort of room/garden/whatever setting which was quote-unquote "so indescribably beautiful" that the narrative wasn't going to bother to describe it. It was, and still remains, hilarious, IMHO.

Sigh... I turned 68 in March. 67 is **way** too young to die. Apparently she'd been ill for some time.

That's too bad. While not all of her books appealed to me, several were classics. I pre-ordered The Birthgrave as an ebook a week ago.

67 does seem kind of young these days, but I guess when it's your time, it's your time.

And depending on what's wrong with your health I imagine 67 can feel like a very old age.That's one problem with our modern age. We know enough to keep people living longer but can't always give them a good quality of life along with it.

I've never read any of her books. Can anyone recommend a good one? Am I right in thinking she wrote what is generally called "high fantasy"?

EDIT: No, I'm not right. I'm getting her mixed up with another author.

From the ones I read growing up it was more supernatural gothic.

I feel like Tanith Lee was one of those names that was always around, and that I probably read some of her children's fantasy in my youth, but I can't remember anything specific, so maybe I didn't.

She also apparently wrote a couple of episodes of Blake's 7, which I have definitely seen.
