Own an H2O, thinking about a Voyage

Hi,

I previously owned a 1st gen paperwhite and whilst I loved it to bits, I am one of those people who likes to have the newest and best of everything. I am also incredibly impatient, so because there was a long waiting time when the Voyage was initially released in the UK, I jumped sideways over to Kobo and bought the H2O.
Whilst I like my Kobo, and haven't actually had any problems with it, I am finding myself missing certain elements of my old Kindle, like the super simple emailing of books, better (although obviously not ideal) PDF reader, the much more consistent formatting between side loaded and Amazon-bought books and the generally much better prices and experience of shopping in the on device Amazon store. The page turn "buttons" also appeal to me, as does the smaller size and better availability of cases (my H2O is currently just shoved in an old iPad slip cover, as I don't like the few cases I have seen for it enough to shell out for one!).
The only possible issues I'd have with the Voyage are the screen tint issues I have read about and, at least on my PW, the irritating font sizes that meant I could never actually get a "perfect" size for me. Have either of these improved or changed, or in the case of the latter issue, is there a way round it via jailbreaking or whatever?
I have suddenly found myself with a little bit of extra money, and am once more contemplating switching back to the Amazon ecosystem and getting the Voyage. Can anyone give me any opinion on this, is it a complete waste of money and should I just be happy with what I have, or is it definitely a superior experience and not just a case of the grass is always greener? Or am I better off making myself wait until a new generation is released, presumably following the autumn pattern set so far?

Thanks so much for any replies!

Keep in mind, the KV can only be jailbroken if you are comfortable doing hardware mods -- i.e. running the jailbreak over a serial port.

On the other hand, we now have a new font size hack that doesn't require jailbreaking at all, see here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...93#post3060893

Best thing to do is to try one and see if you like it. I'm extremely happy with my Voyage. The screen is way better than the PW and the lighting is better, too. Amazon have an excellent returns policy.

Some people have issues with the screen tint, but the majority (including me) simply don't see it.

Can you not keep the H2O and get a Voyage? No need to "switch" if you don't want to. Use the H2O at home, take the Voyage on the go, as it is smaller.

I find the Voyage screen to be superior to any other screen I have used.

I prefer many, many things about the Kobo, though. I am holding my mental breath for the announcement of a 6" Kobo with a Voyage screen. Although since I just last month got the Voyage, I'll likely have to wait til Christmas to get the next Kobo.

That said, I feel I will keep both the Voyage and the new Kobo. The Voyage for it's extreme reliability, if nothing else. Not that a Kobo is unreliable. They do have their quirks, at times, (those quirks could be the result of all the fiddling I do, though). The Voyage is rock solid dependable, (probably because I've never had the opportunity to hack it).

The reason you get a consistent look on the Voyage is that there isn't any way to configure things to how you want. All you get is what Amazon wants you to have. You get wide margins, wide line height, and limited fonts (unless you embed), and limited font sizes.

There are a lot of case choices for the H2O. Just have a look around. I have a Fintie case that I rather like.

I do rather like the 6.8" screen size better than the 6" screen size. Plus the light on the H2O is very constant. I don't have color shifts.

You can buy from Amazon, strip the DRM, and shift/convert to ePub for your H2O.

As for weighting, I suggest you do. There are rumors of new Kobo Readers coming out and one might be like the Voyage as in High resolution and 6". But also remember the PW1/PW2. The PW2 is better than the PW1. Amazon has gotten to be like Apple. Don't buy the first version of a given Reader and wait for the 2nd version.
