Kobo Customer Care horror: How to get a coupon code activated

My mother bought a book at the Kobo store with a coupon code she received by email. That code didn't work. After mailing back and forth a couple of times she received code that did work. She used the coupon to buy book. This means she knows how to use a coupon code.
However the book could not be delivered or was not available for download.

Kobo's response

Indien u niet zo lang wilt wachten of indien het daarna nog niet werkt, bieden wij u graag een winkeltegoed aan voor het boek.
After 4 days the book still could not be downloaded. The same after 10 days.
My mother contacted Kobo and Kobo gave her a new coupon code:

This part went okay.
But thjs coupon code also did not work.
So she responded

Kobo answered again with a standard anwer not addressing the issue. Only providing a detailed instruction how to use promo code (she knows how to use coupon codes).

Zoals ik aangaf werkte de verstrekte code niet. Ik heb het zojuist nog eens geprobeerd en de code werkt nog steeds niet.

Het is niet een boek waarop de code niet is toe te passen maar kan op geen elkel boek worden toegepast.

Books not elligible for discounts? Both books are elligible for discounts but the code does not work. Again Kobo is still not answering the initial question/solving the problem.
Screenshots below show that books are elligiable for discounts.

After posting this post. I checked again now both books are not in the list of books that are elligiable for promo codes anymore. But earlier today they certainly were.

So I checked with two books. Books are elligiable for discount but the coupon code could not be applied.

Members in the Discounts thread have been reporting for maybe a few months now of being emailed codes by Kobo that don't work.

When they have contacted Customer Care I think most of the people got another code sent to them, and in some instances the replacement codes didn't work either.

Kobo seems to be having problems issuing discount codes that are blocked.

I suggest that you PM Brodie and draw her attention to this thread, so that the continuing conversation is out in the open.

Incompetence and maybe fraud. At least creates very bad reputation for Kobo. With this coupon run around I don't know why anyone would buy books from Kobo.

Mmmm fraud because you receive a discount code that hasn't been activated - definitely not!

Filmo, I may be wrong, but you seem to be particularly obstreperous towards Kobo. If there's no need for you to use their products including their ebook store then that may be the best solution.

Those of us who want to continue using the Kobo products share problems and look for solutions to help each other out.

I've emailed Kobo this morning and provided three randomly selected books and all three are elligible for discounts but the coupon did not work and I added some screenshots to show them.

The answer of Kobo: the code does work on all three books.
They also gave me the advice to use a different browser: use Google Chrome.

I had already tried this several times befrore, but I don't mind that they suggest it. It is worth a(nother) try.
So, I tried again. This time with both Chrome and Internet Explorer instead of Firefox. But the code still does not work. All browsers are up to date.

At Kobos end the codes do work (see screenshot #4) but not on the users end. This must be a rights issue.
Take also note of the different pricing. Different store. Different pricing. Working coupon code. Not working coupon code.

I said maybe fraud because I do not know laws in country and all details. If money is paid then product must be delivered as advertised in my country or money returned.

No, it's a Dutch address. I guess it is ip related. Or Kobo Customer Care can logon/has access to to any account but employees keep or use their own default user/employee account settings.

Hi Anak,

This certainly sounds like a rights issue to me - i.e. the book is eligible for a discount in say 'US' but not eligible for a discount in 'NL'. We need to track down why the code was given to your mother if it in fact was not eligible. We should not be sending codes which customers cannot use.

Can you send me a PM so we can dig into this issue?
