Paperwhite Epubs
Hi everyone. I just bought a Kindle Paperwhite. Don't know what generation it is but it is ver. 5.06 (etc). I have not owned one before and I am not a geek or hacker. Anyway I am sure you have dealt with my question before now. But here it is. Is there an easy way to read epubs on this reader? I have read about jailbreaking, converting on pc and transferring and that you can't install epub reading apps (Kobo) on the PW. By "easy way" I mean something simple without ruining the PW. Thanks.

Definitely use Calibre to convert the books to a Kindle format, but convert to .azw3 instead, the result should look near identical to the epub format. The only thing you'll need is to install in Calibre is Apprentice Alf's Tools plugin to remove DRM (Google "Apprentice Alf" for instructions, we're not allowed to discuss it here).
There's no hacking of the Kindle involved at all. I'm basically an epub user and I use Calibre to store all of my epubs in one location. I do not keep copies of all books in both epub and azw3 format, rather Calibre is set to convert a book when it sends it to the Kindle. My library retains its epubs while the Kindle has azw3s on it. |

If the books have DRM, you will have to find the plugin for Calibre that will remove it, if you are comfortable doing that. Google Apprentice Alf.

I agree that if you have a Kindle that can handle KF8, convert your ePub > AZW3 as any formatting more advanced than Mobi can handle will be changed and might not look good. KF8 (AZW3) can handle the formatting.

No one so far has said this important fact:
The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite does not make use of the Epub format instead it reads its own format called .Mobi or .azw3. |

If you're trying to say "Convert it to AZW rather than mobi because it is a newer format" why not just say that rather than trying to restart an arguement. |

Also don't you need it to be a mobi to get Whispersync working?

I agree that the best and easiest option for you is to use Calibre with Apprentice Alf's tools and convert to azw3. However, if you actually want to read epubs on the Paperwhite you can install KoReader. This does not "ruin" your Paperwhite but does jailbreak it and is probably getting away from the "easy way" as per your initial post. Another option, installing Duokan, is similar, and not encouraged.
