Backup of Glo OS before loading new image
Hi all,
I am the owner of a Glo (by Fnac) and just bought an H2O for my daughter (bol.com) I would like to replace the picture that is displayed (fnac/bol.com) that is shown on power-on of both Kobo's. I guess I can do this when I have opened both readers for telnet. BUT: Is there a way to backup the OS of the Kobo's before starting to tweak ? |

You can get rid of the power-on picture by editing the affiliate in .kobo\affiliate.conf (Other affiliates, e.g. kobo, do not show a power-on picture). If you really want to replace the picture, this would be more complicated, since the image is not available as a file but is rather included in one of the binary files (nickel).
As for your actual question, please search for the thread that explains how to replace the internal sd by a larger one. Alternatively, you could create the backup image of the sd also by using netcat (you can find information on this also here in the developer's corner.) @tshering: tnx, after your reply I stumbled onto this webpage: http://wikisec.free.fr/mobile/kobo.html, which confirmed what you mention.
(I like to double check things before blindly screwing up...) I replaced 'fnac' by 'kobo', and now no logo but the cover of the book I'm reading is shown. Tnx ! |

@PeterT: I posted a PM to davidfor, who seems to be an active SD link sender.
Didn't get a reply yet, but stumbled into this page: http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/sh...d.php?t=185660 I guess it contains what I am looking for, or NOT ? |

fridder: Nothing you have said you want to do here or is very dangerous. It's all done by changing config files or creating an appropriate KoboRoot.tgz file. There aren't many things you can do that aren't fixable with a factory reset using the buttons. I can still send you the links, but I doubt you will need them.
