adding a file
I'm mystified. I'm sure I've done this before, and Sigil just inserted a blank file identified as the next number to what already existed. But now when I do it, and expected to see 0015.xhtml, what I see instead is another 0001.xhtml. I've tried to rename the file but can't see how to do it. What am doing wrong?
I suppose I could add fourteen or fifteen new files, until I got to 0015, then deleted all the intermediate ones, but I can't believe that there isn't an easier way. |

Right click on the file, select rename, rename the file.

Ouch!
Of course! Thanks. (What I did, immediately after posting my plaint, was to copy a file to Notepad, delete the text, and save it with the desired name. I then used ADD / NEW FILE to put it into position. I will know better next time.) |

3 5 1 22 7 6 File name-numbers are for humans. The only rule: No duplicates of the same extension.. Section0001.xhtml Section0001.jpg Section0001.css can all exist in the same book The placement order within the book list is all that matters. ![]() |

If you want to "tidy up" your filenames, you can select a range and do a bulk Rename. If you choose "Chapter_001" for instance, the range will automatically be renamed "Chapter_001", "Chapter_002" etc. Just make sure to choose a base name that won't clash with an existing filename, else the procedure will fail.
