Formatting the TOC
I have fumbled my way through a successful conversion from HTML to MOBI and have a stable and working book. The only thing I was not able to do, and perhaps it is not possible, is to change the look of the table of contents (not the auto-generated one, but one that I included with the HTML files. In short, I would like to format it without underlines. Is that possible?

Try using "text-decoration: none;" in your CSS.
