New kindle basic. No first impressions?

Hello, I have K4S, K4B, PW1 and PW2. By now I am not interested in Voyage but yes (is this ok?) in the new kindle basic.
I have seen some reviews in Media but not reviews of users, specially Mobileread user.

If some of you have the new kindle basic, can you post your impressions?

I'm not much of a reviewer, but in my opinion the new basic is really good, very fast and responsive. Its touchscreen works very well, I've had no problems with it (it uses infrared, not capacitive). I use tapping to turn pages and no problems there either. The swiping is a bit more problematic, it does not always react to swiping (you have to swipe when viewing books on the home screen and in collections) and I envy the page turn buttons on the Voyage which you can use instead of swiping.

The screen and contrast are not that much different from the 2012 basic kindle, the text is a tiny bit less bold, but contrast is still excellent. I've posted a picture where you can see the minor difference in text. It is more noticeable in daylight (that's when I took the picture), in the evening under my reading lamp I don't really notice it.

The software should be the same as on Paperwhite, so you are probably familiar with it. I've not encountered any bugs so far.

I purchased a sleep/wake cover from Ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ULTRA-THIN...E:L:OC:US:3160), but the new basic feels too heavy in it, so I'm now looking for a gel case.

Good comparison picture. The display model of the Kindle Basic (at my local Best Buy) is a bit grayer than yours, but not far off. It was noticeably different than my Kindle 4 (I took my 4 in to compare them side by side) -- but definitely not unusable.

Rcentros, my K4S is a lot grayer than my K4B. All the K4B's that I have seen have excellent screens. If the new basic have a similar screen I'll purchase one when a jailbreak is avalaible.

I have two kindles at the moment, one is a 2012 Paper white and a 2014 basic kindle. The basic is much faster and thinner than my paper white and has much lower time to book rates: that is the amount of time it takes from the second I switch it on to the second I can start reading the page. I give it five stars out of a possible five stars and the only reason why I have retained my older paper white is that sometimes I need to read on a semi-darken bus in the morning or in the dark at the buss stop.

You are right, haydnfan, but after some weeks of this reader in the market I miss reviews of it. It looks the great forgotten againts the voyage.
