Till recently, I was using the CC with Kindle Fire Hd 7" and all was in good order.
I had a Kindle Fire HD 8.9' which was rooted to Android KitKat 4.4 by N2A OS. I had the Nova Launcher installed and got all my Apps's up and running . I installed the CC App , and the Amazon Kindle for Android App. Connected the Device to the Laptop with the USB cable, downloaded my books from Calibre. Amazon Kindle on the Device displayed all the books in its shelf and I can open any of the books for reading. Updated the CC with the wireless connection , all the metadata was updated. The CC displayed all the books on the Device , correctly after pointing it to the right folder (Kindle) . When I select a book on the CC and press the read option , it displays the various readers installed on the Device ( Amazon Kindle, Cool Reader , Moon + Reader). The selection works perfectly with Cool Reader and Moon +Reader and the selected book opens for reading. But when I select the Amazon Kindle , it starts the Kindle App , but does not open the book , but the Kindle Home Screen . I can go to the book shelf in the Kindle App and select my book to read. What could be the problem ? Cool Reader and Moon + Reader work perfectly, but Amazon Kindle option does not open the book . Appreciate any suggestion , as I would like work with the Amazon Kindle Reader . |

Note that the situation is different if the device is running Amazon's version of Android and the built-in carousel-based reader app. That system lets us tell the reader to open a book, but unfortunately it resets the book position to the beginning, another thing we have not found a way to prevent. |

The usual suspects are moon+, fbreader, mantano, and cool reader. This is not an exhaustive list. I use moon+ pro because I like its ability to sync across devices and I don't care about the CSS rendering issues that others report. This thread might be of some help: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=238961 Do note that like Kindle for Android, Aldiko doesn't play very well with CC. It wants to "import" the books, and after it does that it won't update metadata. I also am not sure that CC can launch aldiko and have it open the book at the point last read. |

Mantano does not support MOBI.

but it's every easy to convert all your mobi books to epub within calibre , rather than read some in one reader app, some in another
i'ts also simpler to configure CC to only send one format. AFAIK if you have both mobi & epub versions of same book in calibre library,. then CC will only send one or the other to the tablet - not both ? I convert everything to epub & read in mantano, except for my amazon prime loans which I still can't hack - so I have to read those in the native kindle app, & have to remember to tap the opposite side of screen for page turns, compared to how I have mantano configured. (but that's an aside as the prime loans go direct from amazon to Kindle Fire, they don't go via calibre or CC.). another off-topic aside is that I managed to replicate the kindle app sepia page color in the mantano app, after much trial and erro , but I can't get that nifty shade of brown text which the Kindle app uses. I figure that if 2 apps have to be used, then it's nice to get them working with same controls, same color schemes, same line spacings.... Last edited by cybmole; 10-07-2014 at 06:14 AM. |

If you use the default "send to device" button then calibre will send the highest priority format that exists. Priority is set in CC's formats and folders settings. If no acceptable format exists, calibre reports this to you. You use calibre's "send specific format" to override the priority system. Thus, if the highest priority is epub and if mobi is allowed, then you can tell calibre to send mobi even if the book has an epub format that it would normally send. |
