Question Aura HD no longer registers "books finished"

Hey all...

I had to do a factory reset last night, and so far everything's gone smoothly--with one exception. I've noticed that my "books finished" counter stays at zero, no matter what I do; if I choose "mark as finished" from the long touch menu, or actually go into the book and scroll to the last page, it doesn't make a difference.

I checked to see if it was because I had marked books on my SD card, but the ones on the device aren't registering when I mark them, either.

The last sync was at about 4:30 this morning, and I have version 3.8.0 on here.

Any thoughts? Anybody else experiencing this?

You might have "Track reading activity" turned off. This is on the "Reading settings" page of the settings.

Nope, it's on. I'll turn it off and on again and see if that helps. =P

Edit: Didn't change a thing.

Are the books being marked as finished? If so, check the database isn't corrupt. It is possible that just the table that records this is corrupt.

Yes, they are. Maybe I'll just do another reset, since I didn't have everything loaded on the device.

Just did another reset, this time it does register the book as read, but I have to go into it and drag the dot all the way to the end, and then page out. It's not registering it by marking as finished (which it always did before).

It did? It has never done that for me.

My Aura HD has done something similar since I've owned it. When I finish a book, it marks it as "read", but whenever I sync the device, all read books show "1% read", although they do not disappear from my total count in the reading stats. Very annoying, as I sometimes need to be reminded if I had finished a book or not. If go into a book I know I have read, and drag through to the last page, it will re-register as read (but not change my overall count), but next time I sync, once again it shows as 1% read.

Not sure I am willing to do a factory reset if that is the only problem I am having (which it is), but I'm open to any suggestions.

Yep. They instituted that in one of the last 2 or 3 software releases. I grumped about it for ages.

I don't get the 1%, but I had noticed lately that with every sync, it was setting my finished books back to unread. And this factory reset I just did also seemed to wipe out my reading hours as well, which is the first time I remember that happening.

I'd really just like the "mark as finished" counting towards completed books functionality back. I'm dreading having to go in to all my finished books and mark them (yes, I'm anal. I keep my finished books on my SD card. I also reread a lot of them).

They did change it a while ago, but my quick test yesterday seemed to show it had changed back. I'll have a play over the weekend.

Are you using more than one device? My feeling is that I will finish a kepub on my Glo. Then a few days later it shows as 1%. I think the finished state is syncing to the server but when it syncs to one of the other devices logged into my account, it gets marked as 1% there. Then that syncs back to the server and then my Glo. When reading books they sync correctly. I see the reading percent update as my son reads something on his Glo which is logged into my account. I sometimes remove the book from the device to stop seeing this.

I mark the books as finished, but the count doesn't worry me. I treat it as "books read since last factory reset".

I have a Kobo mini, but that's my travelling device and I don't sync them. And I've had it for a while, and this just started a few weeks ago.

If anybody on the software team is listening, please pass along that I'd really like that "finished" feature back. =D
