T68 screen frustration

I got my T68 last night and was really excited. That immediately changed to unbelievable frustration, since I could not do anything that required the touch screen with any degree of consistency. I don't think I have exceptionally non-conductive or large fingers and have not had a problem with my Sony PRS-T1 or kindle PW2. But, I figured, let me not get too upset yet. So, I bought a stylus today, and that works great, except when it doesn't, which is about 75% of the time.

I managed to update the firmware today and it did not help at all. Do I have a defective unit or they all this bad? I even did a factory reset and then spent 10 minutes trying to sign into my google account so I could buy calibre companion and actually try to load some books onto the thing. My T68 is unusable. Should I return it or exchange it?

Some of the first T68s had a touchscreen accuracy problem that the firmware update was supposed to fix. It fixed that issue in my first T68, but it had other problems, so I returned it for a refund. Then, I used the refund to buy a second one. It had issues right from the get-go. That one, too, was sent back for a refund. Now I'm on my third, which I have had for nearly a month. It works perfectly. Did I have merely bad luck, or is there a quality control problem? I can't say from my own experience, but it seems like the latter might be the case. Like you, I have had other devices (Nook Simple Touch and the Kindle PW2) that never had any issues.

That's a long intro, just to say that you should return or exchange your T68. Should you get another? That's up to you. I wanted an E-Ink Android device so i could do some serious reading and research on certain apps, as well as read eBooks. Now that I have a T68 that works, the effort seems worth it to me.

From what I understand returning is costly and unfortunately the chances are big to get a similarly poor device.
I have kept mine and I'm playing with it as it is (same issues and others).
When I'll see that, maybe, there is a batch that seems ok, maybe I'll try again. Maybe.

Thanks for the input. I spent several more hours trying to use the T68 and it is not possible. It costs too much in shipping to keep exchanging them until I get a "good" one, so I'll be returning it. I'm very disappointed.

Do you have the Lynx, or the Onyx International version of the T68? I have the Lynx, and the late July firmware update almost entirely resolved the touchscreen issues for me.

I've got the international one. I updated the firmware to the July 2 and then the Sept 4 versions and there was no improvement at all. It is going to cost me at least $25 to mail it back. If exchanging it were free, as on amazon, I'd try again and maybe even a third time, since I really like the idea of this ereader and it is noticeably lighter than my kindle PW2.

Maybe you can return the international one and buy the Lynx from Amazon? http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had the Amazon one and the update didn't fix my touchscreen problems.

Gosh. Today I bought a little ereader because Onyx was out of my reach. It was a sweet deal. Just kiddin; it sucks. And I can't return it. Anyway, I'm still craving for the Onyx but i'm terribly afraid of the exact same thing we all are: what if the product is useless?

Sorry for my poor english and greetings from Peru.

What "little ereader" did you purchase?

You should be able to return it for credit if you purchased it from Saga Fallabella or from Ripley (or even from Compu Palace), as long as you have your receibo and didn't breathe on the ereader. As you are well aware, money that changes hands in Peru is gone forever.

If you bought it at some Mercado, then..yeah...bye-bye money...and tootle-loo* any exchange.

Is it my feeling or the accuracy increases (counterintuitively) when pressing with more of the finger surface, then when trying to be extremely accurate and only pressing with the very tip of the finger ?
Like keeping the finger almost parallel to the screen and touching yields better accuracy then when keeping it perpendicular on screen ?
