What Pocket PC are you drooling over?
Today marks a special, happy day in my life...I ordered the Dell High X30. I got a lovely commission from working a convention at my job, and so I intended to buy myself a toy. Then Dell extended me credit...and I was off to the races!
I got the 624MHz flavor, which of course includes WiFi, Bluetooth, 64MB RAM/64 MB Flash ROM, and I purchased the 1800mah battery to go with it. (I also got the 2 year extended warranty and the 2 year accidental damage coverage!) I pretty much have been so excited I can hardly sit down ever since I got the "You're approved!" message (I'm financing it for the purpose of making my credit rating go up) and started customizing my order. I've been drooling over this ever since I read the specs. What Pocket PC is everyone else gazing at longingly? (And yes, this thread was mainly created out of my excitement over my first totally-brand-new-to-me Pocket PC. Why do you ask? ![]() |

Jess, this is a rhetorical question, isn't it? After citing us all the nice specs of your new gadget, the answer is pretty obvious!
Can I PM you my address where to send the X30 to? |

![]() Until now, the hp 2215 or the 4xxx series were my Holy Grail of PDAs. I thought that I really wanted something with a CF slot (thus my obsession with the 2215) but I've never actually had a PDA that DID have a CF slot, so it's not like I'm really missing out. I also considered the hp 1945, because I love the form factor of my 1910 so much, but not having wireless onboard kind of sucks. The Dell form factor isn't my favorite, but for a device with a jog dial, built in WiFi, programmable buttons, a really fast processor, and lots of storage I can put up with the squareness of it all! I have to admit though--I really dig the Treo 600/650! But, you know, Palm. Bad. ;-) |

I think I said elsewhere that I've been looking at this unit as well. Although I will say that a friend just got the low-end model and is quite happy with it.
Will you give us a full-on write up when it arrives? Psyched for you btw. I'm in the same sitch, waiting for my new ipod to arrive. Toys rule! ![]() |

Once I bring myself down from Cloud 9 of Geeker Joy, you can bet I will put together a full write-up with screen shots and pictures! I can hardly wait.
My friend got the mid-level X30 and I was totally jealous...she is a PDA newbie and didn't realize all that it could do until I told her (with a tone of wonder in my voice). She loves it, though. My boyfriend keeps hinting that I'm getting an iPod for Christmas. If I got that, and got myself a new Bluetooth capable phone, I will truly feel like a road warrior!!!! I hope your new toy arrives soon. ![]() |

<jealous mode>I want an X30 too!</jealous mode>
Seriously, I think Dell have taken the crown from HP with this PPC (at least for now), and if I could afford another PDA right now, this would be it. Please let us know your impressions when you get it! (some piccies would be nice too ![]() Craig. |

That leaves me still using the iPaq h1910, or is there anyone else here that uses it?
![]() My next device will probably need to have a VGA screen... screenshot comparisons between VGA and QVGA screens do show the difference, and since I spend hours reading each day, I reckon my eyes need some pampering. ![]() Now if only I can stop sitting on the fence about a phone/PDA combo or continue to have two devices... ![]() |

I don't have a 1910, but the next best thing
![]() Every person I know who's used a VGA PPC swears by them, no matter what brand, so I'm prepared to make the leap next purchase (which won't be for a while anyway). In the meantime, my 1930 and I are very happy together ![]() I don't think it will be an HP either, from the looks of the competition and the range HP is releasing now. Craig. |

Me too, I am holding on (or at least try to) for a VGA device. Preferably I can have a Pocket PC Phone Edition device running with VGA, now that would be something!
![]() Frankly I find the new HP rx series too business like, and nothing comes close to the designs of the 1900 and 4100. Dell's beginning to pique my interest too, it seems they are getting slimer at least, though not any less boxy. ![]() |

The higher Powers That Be are punishing me for my tech greed--my car broke down for the second time in three weeks this morning! Time to get a new one, though I can't afford it.
![]() I love the design of the 1900/4000 series iPAQs. Small, slim, light and great for my small hands. Plus they have that gentle curve that just makes them pretty! I think the HP rx series looks ugly and cheap. The Dell is nice and light, and though boxy, still very aesthetically pleasing. |

DELL can bite me today. My Axim was set to ship out tomorrow, but upon trying to upgrade my shipping they reveal that the Axims are backordered and mine won't ship until NEXT week. ARRRRRRGH! I made them upgrade my shipping to next day for free. I am so upset. I was so looking forward to playing with my Axim this weekend.

As a longtime dedicated Palm OS user, my only personalexperience with PPC was a "Juniper " device, an IBM WorkPad z50 clamshell running CE 2.11 that I bought for a song when they were being discontinued. I wasn't impressed and since then I have made an attempt to keep up-to-date on Microsoft's latest handheld OS incarnations and OEM designs by spending the occasional 10-20 minutes with the latest PPC offerings at the local CompUSA or Circuit City.
While I still think trying to scale down the conventions and GUI of a desktop OS onto a handheld is madness, I do want to expand my PDA experience and knowledge by obtaining a WM2003SE device at some point in the future. Besides a personal interest (obsession) in the evolution of PDAs and personal technology, due to my job responsibilities, more knowledge of different devices and operating systems is a good thing. I seriously doubt any device other than one running Palm OS would become my primary PDA, but I am open minded. However, the "Zen of Palm" is currently the closest to my personal PDA philosophy. My Zodiac 2 fulfills all of my current handheld needs, and any other PDA at this point would merely be yet another exercise in "PDA awareness". I'm most interested in HP's hx4700. Its form factor and layout remind me a lot of my Newton MessagePad 2100. At $150 more than Dell's new X50v, it would be a tough choice, but I find the powder coated magnesium alloy body and a full 4 inch VGA screen with dual expansion slots and dual wireless very hard to resist.
