StoryBundle - [Dark Fantasy]

StoryBundle - Dark Fantasy

In addition to the two regular charities featured (Girls Write Now and Mighty Writers) they are also including the ALS Association this time around.
Quote:
Urban fantasy has begun to show a darker side in recent years and the books included in this bundle are designed to showcase that very trend, available August 27th through September 18th. You won't find any thinly disguised paranormal romance here; all of these titles delve into the gritty reality of a supernatural world that has come out to play with a complete disregard for doing so fairly. You'll find smart but saucy witches, hard-boiled sorcerers for hire, even a lustful demon that is far more than you ever imagined a demon could be. Combine them with the stalwart gentlemen that defend London with their magic and a resurrected Templar Order tasked with keeping the darkness at bay for the rest of us and you've got a smorgasbord of dark fantasy you simply won't want to miss!
Pay a minimum of $3 and get:

Bone Shop by T.A. Pratt
Spoiler:
Bone Shop explores the origins of ass-kicking sorcerer Marla Mason. Long before she became the Witch Queen of Felport, or the Bride of Death, Marla was a teenage runaway with no inkling of the dark magic that underpins the world. Bone Shop chronicles her rough beginnings, her apprenticeship, her years as a mercenary magician, and her eventual rise to power — navigating dangers including supernatural serial killers, cursed artifacts, and doomed young love.

London Macabre by Steven Savile
Spoiler:
From the UK's #1 bestselling author of Dr. Who, Primeval, and Torchwood comes an occult thriller featuring murder and supernatural mayhem on the streets of old London...

Strange and frightening things are afoot in the City. The lions of Trafalgar have climbed down from the plinths surrounding Lord Nelson's column to assume the defense of the city, fulfilling an ancient prophecy, while a sinister presence, also free after centuries of imprisonment, now stalks tender prey through the gas-lit streets and meat markets of the Whitechapel District. The women this fiend targets are far different from the whores being brutally murdered by a man named Jack, for these woman may look like flower girls but they have the blood of angels running through their veins...

Standing between these two forces are the Greyfriars, determined to face off against these infernal foes with nothing but their wits and a touch of old school magick. Success means the rescue of innocent blood and the gentle hearts through which it beats, but the price of failure is too horrible to contemplate...

Join Dorian Caruthers and the stalwart men of the Greyfriars as they journey through the dark city's dark underbelly to the very edge of the Catamine Stair in an effort to keep the devil and his minions from claiming London as their own.

Crimson Night by Marie Hall
Spoiler:
Welcome one and all to Carnival Diabolique- or what I affectionately like to call, the carnival of the damned. My name is Pandora, and though my face might not look familiar to you, you do know me. I'm a Nephilim. What does that mean? I'm half demon, what's my other name? Lust. I'm the dark craving that drives you mad, makes you want, makes you reckless and stupid. I'm the drug you'll do anything to get your hands on. But I'm not all bad. I fight for light, for goodness and truth. I love my job, killing vampires and werewolves, zombies, and freaks... it's what makes me happy. But people are starting to disappear and lately I've felt a dark presence lurking around me. I think it might be a death priest and that's really bad. There isn't much a demon like me fears, but I fear them. This should have been easy, me killing the fanged freaks, getting rid of my pesky priest problem, but I'm about to be betrayed by the one person I thought I could trust with my life and before the night is through I'll be covered in crimson...

The Long Way Down by Craig Schaeffer
Spoiler:
Nobody knows the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas like Daniel Faust, a sorcerer for hire and ex-gangster who uses black magic and bullets to solve his clients' problems. When an old man comes seeking vengeance for his murdered granddaughter, what looks like a simple job quickly spirals out of control.

Soon Daniel stands in the crossfire between a murderous porn director; a corrupt cop with a quick trigger finger; and his own former employer, a racket boss who isn't entirely human. Then there's Caitlin: brilliant, beautiful, and the lethal right hand of a demon prince.

A man named Faust should know what happens when you rub shoulders with demons. Still Daniel can't resist being drawn to Caitlin's flame as they race to unlock the secret of the Etruscan Box, a relic that people all over town are dying — and killing — to get their hands on. As the bodies drop and the double-crosses pile up, Daniel will need every shred of his wits, courage and sheer ruthlessness just to survive.

Daniel Faust knew he was standing with one foot over the brink of hell. He's about to find out just how far he can fall.

The Heretic (Templar Chronicles: Book 1)by Joseph Nassise
Spoiler:
Former SWAT officer Cade Williams is no ordinary man. A chance encounter with a powerful supernatural entity left him possessed of certain unique abilities, such as the power to cross between the lands of the living and the dead. Now he commands the Echo Team, a special ops squad of modern Templar knights, and the things they hunt are far darker and much deadlier than the criminals that he used to face.

Echo's latest mission has the squad facing off against the Council of Nine, a group of necromancers determined to seize the Spear of Destiny: a legendary relic whose powers they hope to twist to their own ungodly ends. Cade and his men cannot allow this to happen, no matter the cost, for the results would be too horrendous to imagine.

But the necromancers are allied with the same demon that left Cade for dead five years before, a creature so powerful that the Templars know it simply as the Adversary. In order to keep the Spear from falling into enemy hands, Cade is forced to face not only the personal demons deep in his heart, but the very creature who put them there in the first place.

A Scream of Angels (Templar Chronicles: Book 2) by Joseph Nassise
Spoiler:
Cade Williams was just an ordinary cop until the night he came face to face with a fallen angel known as the Adversary and nearly died. Now he commands the Echo Team, a special ops squad of modern Templar knights, and the things they hunt are far darker and much deadlier than your average criminals.

Some things are just better left alone...

When a Jesuit priest wanders out of the New Mexico desert, telling wild stories about a secret research installation and bloodthirsty demons hunting through its halls, the Echo Team is called in to deal with the situation. Their orders - investigate the facility, determine exactly what happened there, and deal with any infernal presence that might exist.

But the being they encounter beneath the desert sands has found a way to break the bonds of Hell itself and doesn't plan on going back easily. This time, their foe might prove to be too much for even Cade and the men of Echo Team.

A Tear in the Sky (Templar Chronicles: Book 3) by Joseph Nassise
Spoiler:
Cade Williams was just an ordinary cop until the night he came face to face with a fallen angel known as the Adversary and nearly died. Now he commands the Echo Team, a special ops squad of modern Templar knights, and the things they hunt are far darker and much deadlier than your average criminals.

When Knight Commander Cade Williams discovers that his wife, Gabrielle, is not truly dead, but held in some kind of arcane stasis between the lands of the living and the lands of the dead, he vows that nothing will stop him from freeing her soul from the prison surrounding her.

But his vow is tested right from the start when an old friend calls on him to help protect the city of Boston from the ancient scourge that threatens to destroy it, leaving Cade with a heart-breaking choice: Do his duty and save the innocent lives he has sworn to protect or forsake them all in order to rescue the one for whom he would brave the walls of hell itself?

Twenty Palaces by Harry Connolly
Spoiler:
When Ray Lilly was 13 years old, a handgun accident landed his best friend, Jon Burrows, in a wheelchair and turned Ray into a runaway and petty criminal. Fifteen years later, Ray returns home after a stint in prison; he's determined to go straight, but he knows he can't do that without making peace with his old friend.

What Ray doesn't expect is that Jon has just received a mysterious cure–not only is he out of his wheelchair, he seems stronger and faster than… well, pretty much anyone. Worse, his cure has drawn the attention of all sorts of powerful people: the media are camped out on his block, the police are investigating him for insurance fraud, and weird shadowy figures have begun to draw closer, figures who clearly do not mean to do Jon any good.

Can Ray atone for the biggest mistake of his life by protecting his oldest friend? And what terrible price will the world have to pay if he succeeds?

Darkness Haunts by Susan Illlene
Spoiler:
Melena Sanders faced her fair share of danger with insurgents and terrorists when she served in the U.S. Army, but now she is about to go up against a new threat. Her best friend, Aniya, has disappeared while on a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska—a supernatural haven. Most humans have no idea darker races lurk amongst them. Mel knows better. If she wants to get her friend back, she's going to have to go in alone—but not unarmed.

Melena has a few special skills the Army didn't provide, but the odds are still against her. She's got to come up with a plan fast that doesn't involve her, or her friend, dying. But danger likes to play it rough. A war for power is about to rise in Fairbanks and if she wants to get Aniya back, she's going to have to step right into the middle of it.

I bought the lot. $12 for 9 books isn't a bad deal and certainly donating money to help find a cure for something like ALS is a good cause.

I ended up getting the whole thing, which is pretty rare for me with StoryBundle. What really sold me is them promising no disguised paranormal romance.

If that's the case, I need to take a look at those titles again.

I almost bolded it in the original post, but I wasn't sure how many people would or wouldn't appreciate it. ^^;
