Touch Kobo Touch History?

I just received a Kobo Touch (it's for my teenage son). I wasn't sure what I was getting...the seller listed it as the one with 2gb, but it actually has 1 gb. According to the MR wiki this model came out in May 2011.

I assume this is the one without the internal memory SD card that can be removed.

When was the Kobo Touch with 2gb internal memory released? I can't find any differentiation. Is the second iteration the one with the internal SD card?

Wikipedia has the Kobo Touch with 2gb internal memory coming out in May 2011. (Same date as the one with 1gb? I doubt that).

Does anyone know why Kobo released 2 versions of the Kobo Touch? Were there more than 2 versions of the Touch?

The reader is really nice...makes me mad that I didn't try the Kobo when this one came out in 2011. (I was using the Kindle Keyboard then, didn't get the Kindle Touch that year, either).

So if anyone wants to share the history of this nice reader, I'd be obliged.

This device seems to have a severely bad battery. My son only uses it about 10 minutes a day. So I guess it will have to stay on the charger the rest of the time. ETA Factory Reset seems to have corrected the battery drain issue.

I'm curious tho, you said it only had 1gb. Can you post here the exact numerical storage you see under Device Information? 'Cause it's not exactly 2gb that will be available. More like 1.2gb available for the 2gb model.

As for the battery, can you please elaborate? How long can you actually use the device? 'Cause I'm getting, from what you said, that the battery runs dry in 10 mins?

It actually has 1400 MB of storage.

The battery was draining dry just sitting there hardly being used with only 5 books on it. I think there were some hidden files, maybe? The person sent it to me without even logging out of their account. So I logged out and logged in, but still experienced super fast drain. So then I factory reset....and had to register via the desktop software! Then had a corrupt database, so logged out and logged back in again. Now, all seems fine. Still at 100% and it's been a few hours. It's on firmware 3.3.0 and that's where I'll leave it.

All the Touches have 2GB of internal storage. But, there are two hidden partitions that use a chunk of that storage. One is the rootfs which the device runs from. The other is the recoveryfs used for factory resets. I think the exact sizes of these partitions has changed with the different versions of the Touch, but 1.4GB for the user partition is about right.

And there have been three versions of the Touch. The N905 is the one with the fixed internal memory. The N905B uses the same firmware package but has in internal SD card. The N905C also has internal SD card, but uses the same firmware package as the Glo, Mini and Aura HD. The model number is printed on the end of the device.

Thank you, you have solved the mystery! Mine is N905, the original Touch.

The battery only went down to 95% over night, so I think it is good to go. It's for my 16 yo son.
