eBook trouble with iTunes

I bought an eBook from iTunes awhile back when a friend gave me a gift card. Normally, I read with my Kindle, but since I have an iPad I figured it wouldn't be an issue. However, what I didn't realize was that, since my iPad is a first generation, I cannot use the iBooks app - and apparently no other app can read an iTunes eBook due to the DRM they use. I was hoping there might be a solution to my problem, since I can't even read the eBook on my computer's iTunes program.

Do you think it would be the particular book? Apple uses that ePub3 variant on their newer books and it may not be readable on the old app. I have some K books that aren't available in mobi 7 and they can't be directly downloaded to a K1 or K2 because neither of them can handle KF8. I don't know if the situation is comparable... could be.

I never thought of it that way. If that is the case, then Apple should label them as such in the listing so people buying them will know not to if all they have is a 1st Gen iPad.

When I've gone to download an app that's used to work on iOS 5 and now needs iOS 6 or 7, I can download an old version. I would think iBooks would act the same way.

That's weird. I thought I remembered trying to download the iBook app before, and it not letting me, but it worked fine now. Thanks for the help.

Then again, since Sneakyspider just got it to work, I could be entirely wrong.

But what could happen is the eBook could display differently because of changes made to the newer version of iBooks. Thanks Apple for making the 1st Gen iPad a piece of junk. You pay that much and end up with something that's obsolete before it's even released.
