assertion failed?
I've never run into this one before! I get a validation error on Epubcheck that says:
assertion failed: different playOrder values for navPoint/navTarget/pageTarget that refer to same target The error is at line 21, position 45. Line 21 reads as follows: <navPoint id="navPoint-2" playOrder="2"> And position 45 is the blank space following the closing angle bracket, so evidently there's something missing. There is a similar error for each chapter of the book. What have I done to myself this time? Thanks - NJ |

I checked my toc.nx against an earlier book and noticed a seeming omission. I added the line:
</navLabel> to close out a label, then ran epubcheck again. All the earlier errors had vanished, and now I get flagged four times for what seems the same error: The element type "navMap" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</navMap>". This seems very strange because the flagged line 51 is NOT the end of the map, and </navMap> does indeed appear where I think it ought to be, on line 112 just before the terminating line </ncx> Perhaps it's obvious, but I have never before had occasion to edit the toc.ncx file! Oh, never mind! (as the lady used to say on television).
I found the error, consisting of two closing </navPoint> tags. You see how invaluable this forum is? By having to specify my problems, so as to ask the question, I found the answer! |

It happens to me very often (not only in this forum, but in any other forum, mail list, etc.) that as I describe my problem and try to provide all the information needed, I eventually find the solution myself even before posting the question.

It is often easier to find other's mistakes than one's own. I just spent nearly a week trying to solve a problem I created. If it had come to me as I created the mistake, I would have seen it at once. But since I NEVER do that, I didn't bother to check until days later!
