Kindle touch worth updating firmware?
I have a Kindle touch I acquired two years ago. It got version 5.1.2 firmware and for some reason it doesn't update when I connect to wi-fi.
My question is I would bennefit of anything from the newer firmware or should I keep it like is. I'm not having any issue. |

Amazon only does updates via wi-fi for a limited time. Beyond that you can download the update(s):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200790650 Not sure what the updates included, but no reason not to have the latest firmware unless you've installed hacks that are incompatible. |

You'd definitely benefit from it. The update gives the Touch the PW's user interface, which is (IMHO) a huge improvement.

Look at the risk/return ratio. The worst that could happen is that you would need a new kindle, I doubt it would come to that though. The most likely down side is that you would need to spend a few minutes figuring out how to do that and Amazon will tell you how to do that. So there is little downside and as Harry T puts it significant upside. Go for it.

Thanks for the replies.
I tried the manual update, followed the instructions, it got in the update screen, some minutes passed, reset, and then... Nothing happens. Still on 5.1.2. I repeated the process twice. Anyone had that problem? |

You reset it, or it reset itself? It should be the latter.
I'd suggest phoning Kindle Customer Service and asking their advice. They're very helpful. |

Did you get the updater screen with the bars moving across as the firmware updated?

Yes, everything seemed to go right, besides final result.

I'm afraid my only suggestion is to contact Kindle CS. It certainly should work. Worked fine for me.

Did you note that you need to do two updates since you are currently at 5.1.2?
First you need to install Software Update 5.3.2.1, Then you need to install Software Update 5.3.7.1 on top of that. If you try to only install Software Update 5.3.7.1, the installation will fail. |

Yes, pidgeon92. I tried installing 5.3.2.1 only.
