Calibre Hangs when connecting to Folder or File
When I use any function that opens the finder-like window, Calibre hangs, and I have to force quit.
Connect to Folder Browse new location for Library Change Library Load Plugin from File Other functions of Calibri work (until I try to connect to folder or file) I tried uninstall/install. No luck. I posted this question on the Plugin forum but I now see that it is a more general problem. I use Calibri on my iMAC without any trouble. What could be the problem? How to get around it? What you're describing is the file open dialog provided by Finder hanging. Not much calibre can do about that. My only suggestion is to try to get calibre to use non native file dialogs by setting the appropriate environment variable, as described here: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/cust...ment-variables

Odd interaction
Calibre is a great program, and works perfectly on my iMac. My current problem on my Macbook (same operating system) seems to be the result of strange interaction effect between the OS X Finder and Calibre when it tries to access the open file dialogue. Calibre otherwise works well, and so does Finder on other apps on this Macbook.
I tried to change the environment variable as kovidgoyal suggested. I did not succeed probably because of my incompetence. The external link ("how to set an environment variable in Mac OS X") has many steps and seems to be intended to affect all applications. Since what I mainly wanted to do was simply to add a plug in, I tried to use the command line (in Terminal) calibre-customize --add-plugin, -a filename. This runs but produces an error: python script unexpectedly terminated. I really appreciate that the creator of the program would reply, and so quickly, but I don't expect or deserve any more of his attention. I would like to be able to solve this problem, but it is obviously not crucial because I can continue to use Calibre on my iMac. |

It will affect all applications but that's all right, as only calibre will make use of this particular variable.
