Does anyone use an anti-glare screen protector?
Hi,
I am thinking about purchasing an anti glare screen protector for my nook hd+ and didn't want to waste money. Does it help? I find that reading on the device is not as bad as I thought.(I am used to eink readers) I just wanted to check with others who may have tried it. I do watch videos on the device every once and a while and would also like to know if it "takes away" from the clarity. Thanks, Penny |

If you read on darker, non-white backgrounds (and if you ever do experience eye strain while transitioning from the backlightless eink, you should try darker color schemes, it can help), you'll notice the loss of clarity less. I switched to a crystal clear protector with my newest device to regain clarity, and I don't regret it, but it is a fingerprint magnet, as most shiny glossy surfaces are. If I weren't reading on this device, I'd definitely get matte (antiglare). |

I have an antiglare (Great Shield) screen protector on my Nook HD, which I use primarily for reading novels. It works great to eliminate the glare, but yes, it does dull the colors. It's fine for my purposes, as I have another tablet I can use for colorful things.
I didn't put one on the HD+, but if I did, I would get one that did not mute the colors. |

I always use an anti-glare film over any of my hand-held devices. First, to protect the screen from scratches. Second, less finger prints (like: none). And third: the anti-glare. I prefer not to have glare and actually see the screen instead of a vibrant screen you cannot even see due to the glare...
But I don't watch movies on my tablet/phone, I have a nice TV for that... Oh, I also don't like the very slippery screens for touch. Adding a film over the screen makes it a bit more "rough" and thus, for me at least, easier to use. |

I hate anti-glare protectors myself! Takes away from screen sharpness and clarity, leaves me looking at a bazillion dots of rainbow colors, which really bothers my eyes. I don't like glare either, but it's better than having an anti-glare protector on.

If you see rainbow colours, you don't have it applied correctly. I see more rainbow colours on an unprotected screen (due to fingerprints) than on a protected one...

I've got an anti glare screen protector on my galaxy S4 at the moment and I'm debating keeping it on or changing it. It really dulls the screen and takes away the clarity but on the other hand it stays clean and is good for outside use.

I've never really liked screen protectors but I have recently been looking at the tech 21 self repairing ones they are expensive but look very good, also been looking at crystalusion which is some type of nano coating that wipes on and protects the screen and keeps it clean for a year I'm tempted to buy some and try and coat all my gadgets screens.

I've used Zagg InvisibleShield protectors for years on all my electronics (except my e-ink readers). I've never noticed my colours to be dramatically dimmed, nor have I had a problem with rainbows. I've put the things on my phones, GPS screens, camera LCD's, even on a watch face once.
The nice thing now for me, is that there are Zagg kiosks in West Edmonton Mall, so I don't even have to apply the film myself anymore! (http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/index.php) Last edited by AlbertaCowboy; 11-13-2013 at 02:29 PM. |

As I say, I can't stand them! They reduce clarity. |

Think I'll be keeping the matt screen protector after all. I've been waking up in the middle of the night for the past few nights (not last night) and I've been reading for a few hours before I drift off to sleep. Feeling too lazy to get my kindle I've been reading on my gs4 and it has been quite nice because the screen is a lot duller than it would be with a non matte screen protector. So for reading maybe it is better.

I have anti glare screen protectors on all my devices now. I read at lunchtime at work and it's too difficult without it - the lunchroom is full of fluorescent overhead lights. I have trouble with bright white screens so I use dark themes for everything. The colorful dots are only noticeable on the white backgrounds so I don't really notice it. I also keep my screen so dim that it shows up in battery stats as "dark" so I don't know if that makes it less noticeable as well.
My vision goes double when I have a white background and it seems the glare from a shiny screen causes it too. I switched from a Zagg protector to a anti glare on my phone and I can now use my phone without my vision going double. My eyes must be very sensitive. I hated the Zagg screen anyway - the orange peel effect drove me crazy. |
