rename multiple ebook
I've downloaded many ebooks and I have imported in Calibre but they all have names with upper case letters and other sensitive. I would rather have only the first letter of the title of the book in uppercase. Can you tell me how to rename them all together?
Thanks ![]() |

What are you seeing? "This is the Title of your Book" (example) or something different?

You want the phrase to be capitalized, not put in lower case. You do this using bulk metadata edit/search and replace. See the attachment for what to do. Make a backup of your library before running the search and replace, because there is no undo. Because you are changing the title, the search & replace will take a long time.
As for the author name, you need to do three things: 1) Use the quality check plugin to ensure that all your authors are in LN, FN order. They will have the comma. 2) Set the tweak (Author sort name algorithm (ID: author_sort_copy_method)) to "copy" 3) Use bulk metadata edit/search & replace to remove all the commas in author names. |

I used the settings of the image that you have posted and now all the names of the books are accurate, thank you!!!
To reverse the name - surname, I checked and I set author_sort_copy_method "copy" a trick that I had already taught but do not understand why when I import the books have the name before surname ![]() One last thing and then I do not break anymore, I do not understand why, if I rename a book in calibre, the changes that I do not even transfer to the physical file in the folder, in fact if re-import the same file, I see the old name. How can I make the changes permanent ? Last edited by Lauraq; 11-09-2013 at 08:23 AM. |

The metadata, like the name of a book, is stored in many places.
In the calibre database. In the folder name for the book. In the filename of the book. Inside the file that is the book. When you change the name of the book in calibre, everything but the last is updated. Calibre doesn't update metadata inside the book, unless you explicitly ask it to. This can be done by converting the book to the same format, for example epub to epub. Or you can "Polish" the book or use the plug-in "Update Epub". When the book is saved to disk or sent to device, the insides of the book is also updated. So the books that are inside the calibre library are usually not updated to reflect what the calibre GUI says about them. That is one reason why it usually is bad to even peek inside the library folders. The reason is that it is expensive to change the insides of a book, and also it may cause loss of information. This way there is no need to ever change the book in the calibre library. The contents of the book can be kept exactly as it was when it was originally imported. Again for future reference - you can change the 'case' of the title for an individual book via the context (right click) menu of the Title field in the single book version of Edit Metadata to one of the following UPPER CASE, lower case, sWAP cASE, Title Case Capital case (Capitalise) Bulk Metadata Edit only offers Title Case, which you could argue demonstrates a bias towards the Anglosphere - but that's true of most internetty stuff. It's something others are expected to tolerate, along with various Anglospherical misdeeds ![]() BR |

![]() I have lots of books in various formats, there is a step by step procedure on some site or you are kind enough to guide me? Or, I always have an idea, you can import books by title and not by the internal tag? This would solve all the problems ![]() Last edited by Lauraq; 11-09-2013 at 11:59 AM. |
