how to update calibre with OS X 10.6.8

Hi guys,

I'm trying to figure out Calibre. I downloaded it last week and it already says an update is available. I've downloaded the new file but can't figure out how to get Calibre to update. I'm using a MAC with OS X 10.6.8.

I've read the Calibre Quick Start Guide and can't find the Preferences button or the Help options mentioned and am feeling really stupid.

Can anyone lend me a quick hand?

Just run the file you downloaded. It will update the already installed version of calibre.

There is normally a new version every friday; no need to install the update unless you either need one of the new features in it, or have been affected by one of the bugs that is fixed.

I'm on 10.8.5, but from memory the procedure is identical. I am assuming that your existing Calibre app is located in your Applications folder, where it should be. I will also assume that you don't want to keep the old version of the app lying about.

1. Quit Calibre.

2. Find the "calibre-1.9.0.dmg" disk image file you downloaded from the Calibre website.

3. Double-click it to mount that disk image.

4. A folder will open with calibre.app and an alias to your Applications folder in it. Drag calibre.app onto that Applications folder.

5. A dialogue will pop up saying "An older item named “calibre.app” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you’re moving?" Choose "Replace".

6. You're done.
