Hello,
I bought this Kindle Keyboard in 2010 so its the earliest on.e i was reading the other night when my kindle froze. it wouldnt turn the page or even close. the green light kept showing and i left it over night. in the morning i saw the first page with a tree and the explanation of the word kindle. i see the last line that says slide and release power switch to wake. i do slide and release and nothing happens. i took the battery out and sent it in again. i even pressed the reset button on the back. nothing is working. please help. I tried the reset by sliding power button a million times with out success. Please help. This is not moving at all. Thanks!! |

It sounds like it could be dead. You said Kindle 1 in the title of the post, then said Kindle Keyboard within the post. Which is it?
Maybe it needs a new battery? |

Did you charge it up overnight? Leaving it plugged in to a wall charger for a good few hours and then trying to reset it (slide and hold the power button for 20 seconds) is normally the first recommendation for a frozen Kindle.
Oh and "i even pressed the reset button on the back". What reset button, there isn't one? |

There is a reset button on the back of the original Kindle. I think that is probably what the OP actually has.

Oh right, so not a Kindle Keyboard/Kindle 3, but one of the earlier Kindles (as they all came with keyboards back then!)? Better ignore my reset instructions then as I don't know if the slide and hold for 20 seconds works for them.... Or did the KK originally have a reset button?

If the attached image is the Kindle you own, it is a Kindle 1.
If charging overnight (from the wall) or using a paperclip on the reset hole in the back didn't work, it may be time for a new battery. At one time Radio Shack was selling batteries that worked in the Kindle 1. You may also want to call Amazon Kindle Support and ask their advice. I still have a Kindle 1 and have a couple of batteries stockpiled away. ![]() |

oh thanks guys. See i got confused between kindle 1 and keyboard. It is the kindle 1 coz it looks like the picture above. I spoke to the amazon guys and they basically said it is malfunctioning. Since I am in India there arent too many places I can go to get this checked out in person! But from all accounts it looks like this one is dead.

If you have reason for wanting to keep it, you might try replacing the battery, which is really easy to do on this model. Amazon still selling them I think--bought one a few months ago. You probably will have to do a search on the Amazon website in order to locate it. I didn't find it under accessories.
