replacement KKs have screen refresh issues

My KK recently developed battery issues. Amazon have sent me 3 new (refurbished in reality, as they don't make them any more) KKs so far; all three have had problems where they don't always refresh the screen properly and the 'ghosting' of previous pages is apparent to some extent. The first replacement didn't even refresh properly when I pressed Alt/G.

I have very carefully checked 'my' Kindle and my husband's, and had my daughter check hers. None of them exhibit this problem at all. They are all around 18 months - 2 years old.

I have the first two replacements packed up ready to return, and I am dithering over whether to keep the third or not. I don't know if it is worth seeing if they will send me further replacements (they do seem to be prepared to do this) or if something changed and this is normal behaviour on later KK models.

Has anyone experienced similar screen behaviour?

many thanks

Newer Kindle models have a setting which turns ON or OFF page refreshes for each page turn. Perhaps Amazon has added that feature to the KK firmware as well. I would check that before sending them all back as what you described sounds like the feature in newer models where the page completely refreshes only after several page turns.

Also, when did they discontinue the KK? It is still listed for sale on the USA website, although only in the 3G configuration.

H Jack. I don't think there is such a setting on the KK, although I am prepared to be corrected!

I did ask, the first twice, if the replacement was new (& where they 'bill' you for it, in orders, the price quoted is what a new one would be) and they said it would be, but they turned up without chargers. The third time, i mentined this and the CS agent confirmed that they weren't making them any more so they would all be refurbished.

they aren't listed at all any more on the UK site, even as refurbished.

On my Touch the Page Refresh option is buried in the Settings menu and not very easy to find. On the Touch it is Menu --> Settings --> Reading Options --> Page Refresh.

You might try googling "page refresh" and "kindle keyboard".

And BTW, never trust the CS reps at any company to give you the truth. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't have a fricking clue! I find the latter more prevalent than the former.

Forgot to mention that you can force a page refresh on the KK by pressing Alt+G. That is kind of clunky to have to do all the time, but it might help.

Hi Jack

I have been doing Alt/G but although - on this 3rd replacement - it does refresh the screen (it didn't necessarily, on the first two) I definitely don't want to be doing that all the time.

Thinking about it, if you could set the page refresh on the KK it would have had to be introduced in the last firmware update, to 3.4. it definitely wasn't and there are no reading options as such in the KK's settings menu.

I did put all my books on this 3rd replacement yesterday as its a definite improvement on the first two, but I read on it for much of yesterday evening and it didnt feel right. I have compared with mine and my OH's and the page refresh is oddly slow, taking about 3 times that of the others. You can see the transitioning between the old and new print very clearly. I've packed up the first two to go back already so I can't check that on them.

it's all very weird, I really don't know what to think.
