Troubleshooting Half Screensaver doesn't disapear

Hi Guys,

I'm new here.

My father has just given me his (broken) Kindle, wifi, 4th generation, 6in.

On Xmas eve, half of the screensaver image just stood fixed and it doesn't come of. We can still go to the books but only half of each page will appear because the other half remains with the same image of the screensaver that was blocked since Xmas eve.

Warranty ended 2 months ago and Amazon told my father to get a new one. He got a new one and gave me the broken.

Is there any way of getting this equipment working again?

Once again, I must insist that I'm new here and ask for your patience.

Classic symptom of broken screen substrate. There's no way to fix it (except for exchanging the screen, of course).

No need to insist. A post-count of one is fairly sufficient in that regard.

You have a broken screen substrate, by the way. Short of installing a new screen (if you could buy one); there's nothing you can do. Your father is right... get a new one.

Thanks to both, I hoped there was some kind of a firmware problem.

Your advice is to buy a new one? Do you recon that changing the screen will be too expensive? Any idea of costs?

I would suggest getting in touch with Kindle Customer Service. They will usually offer you a good discount on a replacement, even if the Kindle is out of warranty.

I've seen posts indicating that a new screen can run about $30. If you like to tinker, you should be able to get it working again.
