Cybook and iLiad use the same version of MobiReader?
Mobipocket site says: "Mobipocket ebook reader 5.2 is already installed on these devices. You don't need to install anything."
So exactly the same version of Mobipocket reader is installed on both the Cybook Gen3 and the iLiad? For some reasons i need to know this. |

No, they aren't the same. The Mobi version is written in Java, the Gen3 version isn't.
The Gen3 version of the Mobi reader is considerably better than the iLiad version. It has much more flexible page layout options; it has a librarian; it allows you to view the book using whatever fonts you wish; it allows the customisation of the navigation menu; it lets you view the cover image - the iLiad permits none of these things. They may well be the "same" in terms of the version of MobiPocket files that they support, but the Gen3 is a much more fully-features reader. |

The Kindle is based on the MobiPocket Java Reader and is therefore similar to the iLiad, with some of the same limitations (single font, limited page layout options). The iLiad's lack of a cover image option seems to be due to a lack of room for icons (i.e. a GUI limitation).
The Java Reader is capable of using multiple fonts, since it does so on the PepperPad 3. On the other hand, there must be some reason why both the Kindle and the iLiad only allow one font in their readers. |

Can't Download Books to Mobipocket Reader.
I need some help please. I downloaded Mobipocket Reader onto my computer successfully. I think. I was never asked for my PID No. I purchased three books, but when I went to download them I keep getting an error message saying.....TheFile C:\DOCUM~/\MARGAR~\LOCALS~|\Temp\mbt4D.xml has not a valid content. It's double Dutch to me. Can any tell me in plain English what that means. Why wasn't I asked for my PID No. ?
Thanks Mag. |

You mean you bought them via the Windows MobiPocket Reader? I've never done that myself, but I can only assume that it handle the PID processing automatically.
You could try logging on to the web site of whatever bookstore you bought the books from, and downloading the books manually. I'd stick with buying books via the bookstore websites if I were you; it's a lot less hassle! |

If you bought from Mobipocket.com, go to your bookshelf at the web site and click on "my device list". It should include your desktop computer and its PID (on the reader, click the "?" icon and then "about" to get the PID). The process is similar at other stores (e.g. fictionwise is "my bookshelf" -> "update my profile" -> "Secure Mobipocket Personal ID").
It has been a long time since I originally registered, but, like HarryT, I think I did this via a web browser rather than within the reader. There should be no difference at the web site end, providing it identifies the right account. |

An odd fact about Mobipocket Desktop
I bought a book from Mobipocket through the Desktop software. I've since discovered that the ebook I bought must be authorized over the internet each and every time I open it. But if I use a browser to download the ebook from Mobipocket's website, it doesn't have to be authorized.
Weird. |

Thanks everybody. I went to Mobipocket.com and opened My Devices and registered my PID No. successfully. I have now been able to download the books I purchased and have transferred them to my CyGen. I'll settle in now for a little light reading. Many thanks again to ALL for your very helpful suggestions.

The device is not a CyGen, but a Cybook Gen3.

Hi carandol,
You could have said...That could be her pet name for it. Short for Cybernetic Gentlewoman, or should I say Gentleperson? He! he! he! Mag. |
