Last time you were in a bookstore?

There is a B&N on the first floor of the building in which I work. I was interested in looking for a book I had sampled on my kindle last night. I looked among best sellers - wasn't there. I looked among the genre - wasn't there. I looked up the author on my smartphone, and looked in current fiction - there was a big gap on the shelf, right where this book would have sat. I came back up to my office and opened up Amazon.

Like most on this forum, I am somewhat nostalgic for the old bookstore - searching for new treasures. But now, with Amazon's bestseller lists, and reviews, and google, and TV (apparently this book has been mentioned on several talk shows), I can find more than enough to read.

This is the first time I had been in a bookstore in 6 months, and it was very disappointing. All of the books on display, I either had read, or were paranormal romance. I don't see myself going back anytime soon.

I guess this is just another example of our lives moving online. It is hard to beat the immediate satisfaction you get online versus in person.

How about you? Does the bookstore experience live up to what you remember?

Last wek I took the kids to B&N to let them get a couple of books. I sat & read my kindle as they looked around.

Last time I was in a book store it was a Borders, deep into offloading inventory before turning off the lights. I was with my wife who was perusing the magazine rack in search of knitting magazines.

I staked out one of their comfy chairs, whipped out my tablet and read a Kindle book in K4A.

It was when B&N released the Nook Tablet. I wanted to check it out in person.

My last trip to the bookstore was in November to buy a travel book for Paris and a Christmas present for a teen for charity. My trips prior to owning an eReader were much the same though, since I never bought novels at bookstores, I bought used or got them from the library.

The last time I went into a bookstore was over 2 years ago and it was overseas. That was only because I had been accompanying my cousin shopping and she was buying the rest of the Twilight books. Oh well, at least she doesn't gush about it.

I took my youngest into B&N about a month ago to look at the Nooks. We happened to be in the parking lot and I thought he may never have actually been in a bookstore, so we stopped in. He played with the tabs for a short while, but I was unable to coax him into a snack (I needed coffee). We left without spending a penny. That hardly ever happens with me...

I take my daughter to B&N regularly and we often buy books there. She and her babysitter go every week since B&N is next to swim class and they have some time to kill/homework to do. At least they are spending money in the cafe. My daughter LOVES the bookstore, as much as I did when I was a kid. Her computer browsing skills are quite good, but that's just not the same for her.

I stopped in B&N to look at the Nook. While I was there, I browsed book lights and also the bestseller shelves. Looking at the paper books was fun. It reminded me of the feeling I get when looking at my old music albums (aka records).

If an Oxfam charity shop book section counts, then today! I've just finished reading the Library of Gold by Gayle Lynds (very good, by the way!). I became fascinated by the actual story it's based on and thought I'd check out the used book section to see if there was anything on Russian history (no joy).

I can't remember the last time I was in an actual bookshop - before I got my Sony (2008)I would have been in one shop or other at least once a week.

Today (twice).

Yes, why shouldn't it - my grey cells haven't completely atrophied.....

I wandered into a B&N last weekend to get a gift card for Mom's man-friend. Took all of about 5 minutes. Didn't really look at many books (but I did almost get one of those stupid little banzai trees).

A couple days ago. I wanted to buy a new sketchbook, but I couldn't find anything I liked. I brought my Nook along and turned on the wifi to see if there were any in-store freebies as well.

2010 looking for a calendar for a xmas present. Then I found out that the Book Depository also has those for 1/3rd the price - and you can order them way before they are available in a shop.
