Does Retina help with eyestrain?

Agreed. I keep the brightness low. Also I found that I get eyestrain in having to adapt my eyesight from the retina display to devices with lower resolution. Took me awhile to get used to swapping devices.

Agree.
I think it may help just a bit. Plus, its weight is bigger, and it probably will develop more heat Outdoor troubles will probably remain the same I wonder why Apple has to fake reality like from 3:09 http://www.apple.com/ipad/#video With that kind of light, the screen wouln't even be readable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Du3WfTYPVA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L28eA5n5fw Last edited by lorenzoens; 03-13-2012 at 02:44 PM. |

The retina display may help with the resolution or the way letters and images look on an ebook, but I doubt it will help with the eye strain and LCD screen itself.
If someone can provide any non biased article or link saying the opposite ![]() I still believe (my eyes as well) that eink is better. I minimize the problem while using my iPad doing short reading sessions instead, like 20 to 30 min, resuming work after 15 min or so. |

I keep brightness down and I use night mode all the time. Well, in Stanza I just change the colours to suit myself. I like a bright blue on black, with the brightness down. Zero eyestrain

I disagree with most of the comments. I so think the crisper text helps relax the eyes. I feel strained when I try to read on my kids' iPods that are 3rd gen non-retina.

As LCDs reach higher resolutions there are even more dead gaps or spaces (aperture ratio) between pixels. On eink we don't have gaps, aperture ratio should be 100% so the surface is and looks smother for the eye. Also, with a backlit screen, every time your eye switches from a bright screen to the dimmer ambient room, back to the ipad, your eye muscles adjust themselves to compensate, because the difference in lumens. New Ipads should look way better than previous iPad models, no doubt about it, but they are still LCD screens. Like Amanda said, the backlight is what causes eyestrain and that has not changed. Eyestrain is subjective. Reading novels on a backlit LCD display bothers my eyes, so I won't do it. But, I don't mind short articles on the same display.
