Amazon Books and Calibre

Can I add Amazon books which I have purchased to Calibre. If so, preferably in bulk.

I'd like to manage all of my books in the one place.

Regards...

If you can see them with Calibre, when your reader is connected(main Memory view), Select all (or select those without Ticks): Right click: Add to Library.

Books with DRM will not be convertible or readable with the Calibre viewer, but you can still store and catalog them.

Google "apprentice alf" if you'd like to see ALL your books in Calibre.

you may have the annoyance of last name first name getting transposed in author field.

my calibre setup imports authors for all other sources ok ,except for kindle books where the author name usually comes in wrong way around. I've not delved under the bonnet in depth for a solution but if I wanted to do bulk import I'd want to get that sorted...
I suspect Kindle is out of step with rest of planet but as I say I've not researched it properly & could be wrong.

I buy innumerable Kindle books, and MOST of them have the author field correct. There are a few that are the wrong way round, but that's probably equally true for other sources too. Cleaning up the metadata is the first thing I do after importing a book to Calibre.

Pretty interesting thread about the Amazon books and calibre. Meanwhile, Amazon is in hot pot right now about the iOS commission issue which I read from here, Amazon bypasses the iOS commission requirement. Apple and iTunes demand thirty percent of all sales made through their application store as commission. Amazon, however, has found a workaround for the requirement using HTML5 and web browsers.

OK - well I bought 4 books today as the kindle price drop monitor program spotted that they'd gone from £4 each to 90p each. {amazon's pricing strategy seems o be roll a dice, occasionally...]

here is the sequence which failed x 4 for me:

1. buy book from amazon.co.uk , download it to Kindle for PC
2. open kindle for PC folder, find the book & drag/drop into main calibre window

The author then appears in calibre as last name, first name
ticking/unticking the box on add books preferences for swap first & last name has no effect on the above.

( In Kindle for PC , [home page ]the author name is shown correctly

So do I need to use a different import method or change a different preference somewhere - either in the plug in or in the main calibre program?

Speaking personally, what you're seeing is the way I want it to be - authors listed alphabetically by surname. When you look a book up in a catalogue of authors, you'd presumably search for "Dickens, Charles", not "Charles Dickens", hence "Dickens, Charles" is what I want to see in Calibre.

well no - that's what the Calibre author sort field is for.

so in calibre I expect to see Phil Rickman as the author not Rickman,Phil. same as what I see on Kindle for PC home page.

but I expect the sort to be on surname, which it is in both programs

- "Show books by author " in K for PC sorts it by R for Rickman but the author name is shown as Phil Rickman.
so I want calibre to import first name last
name to author field and last name, first name to author sort field. It does the latter OK already but not the former. when importing via Kindle for PC

I have FN Ln set, but the sort is on surname
Clarles Dickins is right where he belongs, alongside Phil Dick int the "D's" tab(?) in the Tag Browser.

It's all down to personal preference, of course. Personally I like seeing "LN, FN" but I completely understand that many prefer "FN LN".

slightly off topic but two of those kindle books that dropped to £0.90 are now back at £3.99. I guess that's what comes off letting one retailer monopolise a market.

for those who prefer not to be ripped off - the free kindle price drop tracker is here
