I have poor sight so have some specific needs
I bought a refurbed Cool-er ereader about 18 months ago and I absolutely love reading on the Eink screen and being able to increase font sizes so I know that ereaders are definitely the way forward for me.
However...... My Cool-er does not handle font changes well and at the largest fonts the margins that got bigger too, meant I only had 3 lines of about 5 words in the centre of screen and even less when reading portrait. I really don't want to have to strip the DRM on the PC and reformat every book I read so the margines and such are all fine at large fonts sizes. I couldn't get stripping the DRM to work when I first got it either so ended up having to get hold of DRM free copies and fiddling with the formatting just so I could read the books I wanted. I want to buy a new ereader now and just be able to buy ebooks normally and easily and then alter the formatting from the device with no need for the PC. Ideally I'd love a 7" one but these really are just few and far between and way more expensive too. A Kindle DX would I think be a bit too big but mostly I just can't afford one as I'd have to import it (I'm in the UK). I put my cool-er ereader next to a friends Kindle Keyboard and the visible screen is a little bigger on mine, are there any other ereaders that are 6" but happen to be a tad bigger? I'm considering the new Kindle or the Kobo touch but I'm still wishing there was one just a little bigger. Any advice to help me make the right choice would be very much appreciated. My condition's called Achromatopsia but it's basically, severe light sensitivity, low acuity and no colour vision. Many thanks |

just searching Achromatopsia + ereader brought up
http://www.achromatopsia.info/steff-...ssentials.html where a kobo eink reader was recommended but it sounds like any non glare ereader with a large variety of font sizes might work a lot of older eink models have been in the deals sub forum here, I personally like the $99 craig tablet it is pretty much too slow for most tablet functions but made a nice touch screen ereader for myself, even if the ability to change text or background color cannot help you, most ereader apps have a much larger selection of font sizes, embolden feature, font types than a stock ereader has Last edited by tomereader; 12-31-2011 at 04:34 PM. |

Thanks for your reply, not sure though of the relevance of many of the links you posted, particularly bible apps? lol
I have an iPad 2 which I love but for reading at length it definitely has to be eInk and I also need something that's available here as I don't want to import something that won't be supported here and have to pay an extra 20% for VAT then duty and shipping to get it into the country. |

I suggest a Kindle, which allows customization of text size and line spacing. Did you try landscape mode? It is often better for large text, and partially addresses your "larger screen" need. It is like a larger screen but with more page turns (which are faster on the new devices and so this is less of an issue than before). On a Kindle, screen orientation is an option in the text size menu.

The Kindle Touch available in the US (and perhaps elsewhere shortly) does not have a landscape mode, at least with the current software supplied by Amazon. |

@Moonlight
sorry, some signature moderator has been on my case about having links to other posts here and the google links which were posted here in other threads in my signature so I made a non signature signature to paste in all my posts |

Get a Kobo Touch, you can edit;
1. Line spacing. 2. Margins. 3. 17 different font sizes. 4. Almost infinite font styles because you can easily load them on from your computer. The Kindle only has 8 font sizes and three font styles, and you probably have Epub books that you have bought for your Cool-er reader which can go onto the Kobo without removing DRM which you would have to do to read them on the Kindle. |

The Kobo is the eInk device that gives you the best control over font size, line spacing and margins. No competition!
I don't know if it does landscape, but I'm guessing (just guessing though) it does. |

Does anybody have a Kobo touch and could confirm if it does have landscape?

It has landscape for PDF's. Not for regular books.

The Sony has landscape for epubs, too. The biggest font setting (out of 8) gives me 6 lines in landscape.
It has a glossy bezel, though. If this is an issue, you could use a covet or a skin to cover these sections of the reader. |

Why would you need landscape?

When you're reading at very large text sizes you only get a few words per line in portrait so it's easier to read landscape and have longer lines, it's just more readable that way.
So if the Kobo is out because of that (which is a shame because I know it had great formatting options) then I guess that leaves the Kindle or maybe the Sony? So which of these two? Are there definitely no 7" ones that could be an option? I know I've not found any thus far. I'd love to try text to speech on the KK but it's a chunky and unsightly looking thing tbh. |
