Guttenberg eBooks - Unable to change COVER with Calibre 0.8.32

Hi

After downloading a Guttenberg book I tried to download/change its cover. Calibre appears to keep the retrieved cover but when you actually open eBook the cover shows is a 'light blue Reader drawing.

Is it possible to change covers for Guttenberg eBooks ? If so how.

When you downloaded it, did you then run a conversion on the ebook? When you first download a cover, it's kept as a separate file and displayed with your metadata. But it's not in the book itself until you until you convert the ebook - even if it's just to-and-from the same format.

Also, are you reading the book in the Calibre book viewer or on your reader?

I *think* there's a setting so that when you have updated metadata then send it to your reader, it automatically reconverts the book, but I'm not sure about that.

FizzyWater is correct. If you change the cover in Calibre, you need to do a Mobi to Mobi conversion to attach the new cover to the book.

Thanks for you speedy reply.

You are right even though you get Metadata and Cover you then need to Convert from MOBI-MOBI. Seems strange to have to do that as I would think you have decided to update metadata when you press the update metadata button.

I don't know if this will be any help, but whenever I change the cover, I always click the Remove button to remove the existing cover (if any) before adding the new one. This is before I do the MOBI to MOBI conversion.

I'm not sure whether this is necessary, or whether I simply do it out of habit, but I don't usually have a problem with changing the cover.

You only need to do the conversion if you change the cover; other metadata changes are applied automatically.
