ePub DRM conversion

I'm thinking of buying either Kobo or Kindle.
If I download an ePUB library book with DRM, can I convert it to be read on Kindle (using Calibre)?
Thanks!

Not unless you first strip the drm then do the conversion. to put it on the Kindle. So just get the Kobo instead that way you will be all set.

You _can_ do this, but it requires stripping the DRM. The process for DRM removal is straightforward and requires only a few clicks, but for details you need to google Apprentice Alf. The Alf's tools plugin to Calibre simplifies the process, removing the DRM before adding the book into Calibre.

Also, you don't specify where you live, but if this is a US library, then books are available in Kindle format. No DRM removal or Calibre conversion required.

I am delighted with it. This is my second Sony reader, I traded in a PRS 600 for the T1.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry, I didn't mention, I'm in UK - my local elibrary has DRM books, either ePUB or PDF format from what I've seen so far.

Then always choose ePub as the format, strip the DRM, and convert to MOBI. PDF conversions are at best a PITA, and rarely very satisfactory.
