Continuing a footnote on the next page

Is there a way to insert a page break in the footnote? But without altering the line break if possible. I would like the text to be fluid in case someone uses text-to-speech in the near future.

I'm using Word 2010 SP1 and I'm planning on exporting to (tagged) PDF, so please keep that in mind too. Thanks.

The best I could come up with is using lots and lots of line breaks and possibly change the font for some of them to "1 pts" once they reach the second page (so that they won't be very noticeable).

Word should be smart enough to break the footnote if there is not enough room in the current page. Of course, "should" doesn't mean it does. Actually, handling footnotes is a tricky matter even for sophisticate systems like TeX.

That's kinda what I've been doing. Not making any room (by adding many many line breaks) so that Word cuts off the footnote where I want it to. But isn't there a more... elegant solution?

I don't know. But may I ask why you want to break a footnote when there is enough room in the page? (You could also enlarge the margins or increase the separation between the normal text and the footnote.)
