Worth upgrading 950 to T1
I'm intrigue by the new T1, especially reports that the screen is much better than the x50 and the new features (look up Wikipedia from highlighted word, OTA library check out, pinch zoom, among others). A better screen and the 6 ounces weight are killer features for me.
Is it worth upgrading a 950 to a T1? Pros and Cons? Thoughts? |

From what I have read here in the past few days regarding the problems a few people seem to have with the T1, freezing up and rapid page turn etc., personally I think it might be better to wait a while before upgrading.
If it is a firmware/hardware issue then hopefully Sony will get their act together and fix it quickly. I for one will be sticking with my 650, works great and does all I want from a reader. ![]() |

I'm not sure the T1 is exactly an upgrade from a 950. I'm certainly not giving up mine for a smaller screen.

I have no plans to give up my 950 and put a T-1 in its place.
However, with the crashing issue affecting a number of people here, I am going to wait a bit before I add a T-1 as my backup/proofreading reader. (Nook will be re-homed.) My ideal is to have two readers, the 950 because the 7" screen gives me pleasure while reading, and a T-1, because the lighter weight will be nicer for dragging it around town with me while I run errands. I also feel like it will be nice while traveling to be able to actually download library books, instead of just check them out on the 950 and then download when I reach home. But if I had to choose one right now, it would be the 950. Yes, the font contrast is better on the T-1 and yes, there are more choices for font size. But I love the 7" screen and the brushed aluminum casing. I also love that it can be in an Oberon cover, which is easier for me to grip than most plain leather covers. 3G for the occasional book purchase or download is also nice. I live in the boonies. We don't have WiFi at home, and it is not "everywhere". I don't do many "gadgets", there's no netbook, no laptop, no smartphone or tablet here, and I love reading, so having both a 950 and a T-1 (later) isn't out of line. |

Also, just as an aside, I've seen people complained that the 7 in screen is too narrow. But aren't all 7 in screens (in Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab, Nook Color) all the same size? There aren't any 4:3 7 in screens out there are there? |

The 950 is eink and is 1024x600, definitely not 4:3. As it turns out the Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab and the Nook Color are 7 inch screens and are all also 1024x600. Some may find the 950 narrow, but the extra space works great for reading. |

I don't know about the screen being the same. While I do recognize there are lots of differences between screens on the same models (I have seen 950s with very different screens, side-by-side), the screen on the T1 looks different to me. I had my 350, 950 and a T1 side-by-side, and the T1 screen had a lighter background (slightly, but noticeable) and darker fonts (much darker.... not just a different font, simply darker).
Said so, it's a very dubious 'upgrade'. You lose 3g (I personally care about that a lot, because I travel more than I want to and like getting newspapers delivered regardless of my location) and some screen size. The T1 also flashes more when flipping pages (at least the unit I tried). The new software is also less stable - and that's what you have to use with the T1 (unless you don't use SONY's software at all - I do, for annotations). On the other side, the unit is lighter, faster, the touchscreen more responsive (which matters if annotating). Being able to change fonts and a more precise font-size choice is great - but those things you can do with PRS+. A better browser and better zooming options - but still clunky (it's e-ink... it's never going to zoom like an iPad). I plan on buying one (waiting to see about all these freezes and about flashing before deciding), but it will replace my 350, not my 950. |

[QUOTE=dwanthny;1784542]Since it is the same screen type I think it must be the font choice. I'm currently using Georgia eInk 25 on my 950, what font are you using.
I'm using Georgia font too, loaded off Mac OS. |

I'm working on older eyes so I have the GeorgiaEInk25 installed. Even at that weight the font doesn't seem like it is bold, just a nice dark font with great contrast. |

It's not subjective and had bupkiss to do with font choice. Sheesh. The screen is brighter than the 350 screen. The background is not as grey on the T1 as it is on the 350. That may well be the inherint differences between one unit and the next but it certainly has nothing to do with font.
