New official covers
Anyone know:
A) Are the new official Amazon covers the same for both Touch and new non-Touch? Or are they specific to each model? B) Any idea why the new Kindle is available in the UK on 12 Oct but we have to wait till Nov 23rd for the covers? |

A) I believe on the Amazon site, the covers for touch and non-touch are different model numbers......i don't know what the difference is though. I think the non-touch has cutouts so you can reach the page turn buttons on the side.
I do like how the Kindle seems to fit into it, with the contacts for the light on the back of the device. Should put to rest the cracked kindles. B) No idea.....want to fulfill all US orders first? Maybe it will ship earlier than Nov 23 but Amazon is playing it safe? Last edited by mewmartigan; 09-29-2011 at 08:17 AM. |

I'm sure Amazon's first priority is to make sure they have plenty of inventory for the upcoming holiday shopping season. After all, Black Friday is a mere 8 weeks from now.

Given that they are different sizes, I would think that the Touch and non-Touch would have covers specific to that particular model.

I saw this listed on Amazon this morning:
http://www.amazon.com/Marware-Eco-Vu..._ddp_bbe3_popT It bit pricey and really a bit big as it will also fit the Touch, but it is in stock now. |

The Amazon page says "for Kindle and Kindle touch", there is a seperate page for the Kindle Keyboard. The only selection is for color.
This cover eliminates the size advantage of the non touch model from the perspective of putting it in a front pants pocket. Otherwise, it looks like a very nice cover, provided it is stiff enough to protect the screen. I do wonder whether the hand strap will transmit mechanical shock to the screen if something bumps against the cover. |

I like the Kindle Zip Sleeve but I don't like the price. $30 is too much.

I'm really liking how the new covers look. The leather looks very classy, and I like it that the light on the lighted version(s) is more centered now. Only thing I dislike is that they don't have a strap to hold the cover closed... I like having that little bit of extra protection.

I don't like the partial spine on the new covers. Those types of spines often wind up being too pliable, shifting up and down vertically when you hold it. Not sure why they couldnt make it a full spine.

Something that caught my eye...
The light on the new lighted cover looks very much like that of the Octovo Solis that I purchased previously for a K2. (they are also made for the K3) If they are similar I will be very happy. The Solis light is an elegant, high-quality design and functions well, particularly at the top center of the Kindle for even lighting. One other feature that is different with the Solis -- the color temperature of the LED is warmer than the standard LED. That is, the light emitted is more natural as opposed to the "colder" blue-ish of a typical LED light and that of the current lighted cover for the K3. The cover with the light draws its power from the kindle itself. I wonder if the light will drain the kindle's battery if I fall asleep or if it turns off when the kindle goes into sleep mode?

One complaint I've got against my lighted cover for the K3 is that it protrudes out a long ways from the case at a diagonal. It is okay for reading in portrait mode but it becomes awkward when trying to read in landscape mode. The light on the lighted cover for the K4 looks like it will work well with either mode. It also looks like it will illuminate the screen better and be easier to deploy.

With the lighted cover for the K3 the light turns off when the Kindle goes into sleep mode and thus does not drain the battery. If the light is deployed (extended) it will turn on when the Kindle is awakened.
