A bit disappointed with writing on Eink
Just got my PE a few days ago and still in the mode of installing and uninstalling apps
![]() One of my expectation is to write on Eink like journal or to do list, but I found it's basically impractical to use it due to the lag and inaccuracy (it shows up slightly away from the place I want them to show up) even after calibration. Any tips on how to write on Eink more smoothly would be appreciated. |

Are you running Dingo or Ermine? Many Edge owners have reported lag when using Dingo which is significantly reduced when using Ermine. Also, when you run the e-ink calibration do NOT hold the stylus at a 90 degree angle when touching the calibration points. Touch them naturally as if you are actually writing. Once you feel more comfortable with the writing in the Journal which I think works great, you may want to consider a better full size stylus. Here's a suggestion:
Wacom Penabled Pen like the Motion Computing LE1600 & LS800 Series. I personally own one of these and it is much better than the stock stylus. It feels much more natural. http://www.compusa.com/applications/...?EdpNo=1433829 You can get this from CompUSA, TigerDirect, or Circuit City (one in the same). Plus, if you visit their websites often enough they offer $10 off coupons quite regularly so if you decide you do want to buy one wait until they offer you the coupon. Does full sized Wacom Penabled Pen actually improve the writing experience or just make user feel comfortable? |

Both. The stock stylus is kind of small so for some people like myself it is a bit more difficult to write naturally with. The full sized Wacom Penabled pen is much more comfortable which in turn improves the writing experience, at least for me. Many other Edge users will attest to this as well. depending on the type of paper you use it can affect the speed of the updating, I think lined works best, but it will be slower with something like the graph paper...

Additionally, under Setting, Edge Settings, Journal Preferences you can change your default Pencil Thickness Preference and this may improve your writing. My son likes a Fine Pencil Thickness while Medium seems to work better for me. Also, ensure the Pencil Mode is set to None. You can also set the default Paper Style Preference from here as well.

I like my paper unlined, just like my soul.
Don't ask what that means. |

I recently got PE and it keeps on amazing me with it's functionality and flexibility, especially after updated to Ermine.
However, the accuracy (place where ink appears vs. where the stylus was) when writing on the reader screen has gotten a lot worse after the upgrade - it was much better with the stock ROM. I even bought another PE just to compare the two. I tried calibrating the screen several times, but it's all the same. Any other ideas? Perhaps I didn't find the correct Ermine or there is a newer version? What file and where should I get? Thanks a lot |

I found the response poor on the newer firmware as well. I've read on this site that if you calibrate with the stylus in a position as if you are going to write is better than if you have the stylus perpendicular. I've not tried it, just repeating :-)

I guess my mileasge varied. I too was a bit disappointed. I recalibrated as suggested, and the accuracy is better. I do find it a bit slow in response though. I am running 2.2.

On my PE the accuracy on the calendar is the best -- near perfect. I use it a lot for notes and stuff.
I also did that 'calibrate like you write' thing. |

Thanks for points. I've noticed that I had the option "shape maker" turned on in settings. That's what made it really slow. I unchecked it and it's almost the same speed as pre-Ermine. It's much better now, but the cursor position is still off and it varies depending on the location on the screen.
