new sony reader wifi librarie access?
I was looking at sony's page for the new reader wifi and I noticed that is said: "world's first e-Reader with wireless public library access to borrow books directly to the device for free"
How is this the worlds first? I have been downloading library books using the wifi on my cybook orizon for months now. Is there something different about this?
Just wondering...

Nope. Marketing hype. As long as your reader can use ePub most of the library sharing programs work fine.

What Sony will let you do is connect to your local lending library (powered by Overdrive in the states) and check out a ebook. This entails grabbing the .ascm file interpreting it then responding to the library's software and downloading the associated time limited ePub or pdf. I imagine the ability to return a book early may also be built into this device.

Until the T-1 announcement no other ereader manufacturer was advertising this ability. You would think that if checking out books from the local library was a feature of the cybook orizon that they would list this feature on their site.

Keep in mind that Sony is pushing this to a USA market and when they announced the T-1 there wasn't another Eink based ereader that could wirelessly download books from the local (USA based) libraries.

I believe that laptops, iPads and Android tablets can have the Overdrive App installed that will allow these devices to connect wirelessly to the local library and check out books, but these devices aren't exactly ereaders.
