Screen difference for new DX

I'm still trying to find a good deal on a Kindle DX.

How much of a screen difference is there between the Kindle DX International (B005) and Kindle DX Graphite (B009) models. I know the docs say about 50% more contrast but how does that equate to real world usage? Is it worth the extra money for the B009 model or would I not really notice any difference?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

For me personally, the difference between the Vizplex and Pearl screens is dramatic. The screen background is almost exactly the same, but blacks are much blacker on the Pearl screen, and that makes a tremendous improvement in the readability of the screen, especially in poor light. I'd certainly suggest getting the newer Pearl screen.

Okay. Thanks for your recommendation. It's tough on Ebay to figure out what people have because I see a lot of 'graphite' models that aren't really graphite.

For me, the screen background is whiter and the fonts look crisper and blacker. The differences between Vizplez and Pearl screens is certainly dramatic if you want to read PDF files, since this kind of file in many case have poor contrast. Don't hesitate: go for the Graphite one. It's worth it.

The screen background really isn't whiter. Compare a Vizplex and a Pearl device side-by-side, and you'll see. The contrast improvement is all in the "blackness of the black", not in the "whiteness of the white".

The improvement of the DXG over the DX is one that you only really notice when you hold them side by side. Then it seems dramatic but if you look at one and then later the other it is not as easy to tell. To some degree the color of the bezel helps emphasize the difference by tricking the eye.

Remember there are ways to put the latest version on the DX..it certainly helps with pdf's to darken and lighten and of course highlights.

The darker "graphite" Kindles give the illusion of whiter whites due to contrast with the casing color, though.
